Not that anyone cares, but she’s made some ground with me the last few days. Her campaign promises seem to run the gamut from practical/actionable to total pipe dream, but at least there are a lot of ideas…

My biggest hurdle has been her position on Palestine, and her words on the topic tonight weren’t the vigorous support of Palestinians I’d hope for, nor a total break from the war machine, but it also wasn’t insignificant as far as political platitudes go.

What's your solution? Allow Hamas to regroup and commit another atrocity? She has intelligent advisors telling her Hamas must be completely destroyed. They're the ones using civilians as human shields. Never negotiate with terrorists.

I admit I don’t have a solution, but I’d say that not bombing hospitals and allowing food and medicine to pass through to hostages would be at the top of my wish list

They're bombing them where they are. They are the ones hiding in hospitals, again, using people as human shields. It is Hamas' strategy to harm Israel's reputation, not to win the war, and it seems to be working.

This is definitely the case sometime, but not all the time.

It’s an overly vague statement that I don’t think makes sense, either, unless he believes justice/injustice are irrelevant to a peace process. I don’t understand how anyone can see it as anything other than an ongoing, 100 year or so conflict that has just progressively gotten worse. And it will continue to get worse until the world steps in to establish the Palestinian state they were promised 100 years ago, or Israel completes the annexation and there is no place left for them. You don’t need complicated arguments to explain what is happening right in front of us, and has been for a very long time. “How a terror organization came to be in power” is the central question. Societies don’t choose to live this way and elect insurgents as the government without having suffered for some time. The world watched this society decay, and America would not treat another country like it treats Israel if they created an apartheid system like they did over there.

And yes — I am aware that she has run a campaign designed for me to project whatever interpretations I want on to her. It’s a smart bit of marketing that, in an odd way, speaks to by centrist bent.

That’s what politics is though right? It’s perfectly ok to vote the lesser of two evils… just don’t pretend it’s not an evil that will have serious impacts on everyone after the election
