So is this the first LB song to get the half step-down treatment live?

There's an almost impossibly high and sustained note at the end of this.
One I haven't heard him attempt since 'the safest place' line in Dissident.
I'm ok with it being dropped down.

I don't mind what he does with the vocal, live, but I'd prefer they didn't tune the whole song down. I'm glad they haven't with this one.

They already did it with My Father's Son. They didn't downtune this one.

I only listened to the live MFS once but i didnt notice any downtuning. Are we sure?

Also, why does that bother people?

Yup, they played it down a key.

It's only a bit irritating because it gives the song a different feel than it has on the album. Luckily it didn't diminish MFS too much, but it has killed the mood of songs before. I say if you can't sing it at the right key, record it lower.

Yeah Getaway might get that treatment too. Sleeping By Myself if they ever play it? It'll probably sound like the Ukulele Songs version live. :D

i thought it may have been, but i wasn't really sure.. i thought eddie was just kind of holding back, but that it wasn't tuned down. i'll have to listen again.

it bothered me a bit with the backspacer stuff. to me, if eddie can't sing something in a higher register without studio "help", then i'd prefer they didn't record it. or, just drop the key on the studio version. it makes it seem a little.. not phony - that's too harsh, but.. i don't know what word i want to use.

Na, it's phony. I don't want a more polished performance on a CD than he can manage live.

Too bad, 'cause that's what you'll always get.

The statement was far too generalised. I know, they'll use studio trickery to make Ed sound nice, and he can sound as rough as he wants live, as long as they don't have to play all the songs in a different key so he can sing them. That in particular is what I meant.

But hey, I'll take the rough with the smooth as long as I like an album.

It just makes the song feel "off" to me when I'm at the show. Like something's not quite right. Then I realize they dropped the tuning and I can kinda settle into it. But if I'm listening to a boot and a dropped song comes on I skip it because it just doesn't sound right.

I could care less as long as the final live product sounds good
