I think that's really about it for me. I don't feel super affected by the announcement. Anything the band tries will at least be interesting. If they retire outright (a scenario I highly doubt), I haven't been able to see them live in almost a decade so that won't register as a loss for me personally really, though people who hit a handful of shows every tour will be sad.
You just hope for the sake of him and his family that it's not a health crisis.

isn't soundgarden in a lawsuit w/ chris cornell's wife to release an album?
Do you think Pearl Jam was hampering Matt Cameron's lawyer from arguing with the Cornell estate?
yes thats exactly what i meant
you said they are pumping out all the stuff they want. if soundgarden is still having issues with cornell's wife they aren't pumping out all the stuff they want. if the lawsuit is resolved, i imagine the rest of soundgarden is going to want to record a lot. i assume matt cameron wants to put more energy toward that and not have to have commitments to pearl jam. i'm sure a pj tour takes a lot out of him.
Wasn’t it announced a few months back that lawsuits with her were resolved?
i dunno, that's why i asked the question before B got all offended
wanting to devote more time to soundgarden and tour less isn't creative differences.

stip wrote:as B said, he is prolific as hell outside the band - not sure how pearl jam would have slowed that down. If anything, it would draw more attention to that work.
Just because we see the guys occasionally cranking out solo records and contributing to other things doesn't mean they are "pumping out all the stuff they want," or that they're satisfied with how the time, effort, push, etc. that they're able to give that stuff fits into a life where Pearl Jam is still the main gig. We really have no idea what creative/musical ambitions any of these guys have, how those ambitions slot into what else they want out of their lives, and how those ambitions/desires move in and out of prominence as they get older.
It might also not be about what Pearl Jam is stopping him from doing, but rather something about their evolved working methods over time that have made creating within the band less enjoyable for him. I'll say this -- I don't get the sense that bringing in Andrew Watt to produce Dark Matter was an equally democratic decision among all band members, and I do get the sense that his working methods were a shift from how the band have historically worked together to write songs. Maybe he just doesn't enjoy that as much, and isn't excited about the idea of continuing to work that way.
I would be relatively confident it's not some dramatic dispute over "creative differences," i.e. Matt and Eddie shouting at each other because Matt wants to write in weird time signatures and Eddie wants to write crowd-pleasing anthems, and I believe that the physical limitations are absolutely a huge part of it. But the idea that something quieter, slower-burning, and more nuanced might be among the factors influencing his decision doesn't seem unreasonable to me at all.

if it's truly a health problem, him including the "more to follow" in his post is pretty strange.

Meh. They made King Animal while Matt was in Pearl Jam. There's no way that he couldn't devote himself to cleaning up the lost files of Soundgarden. There's no way this split is about creative issues. 0 chance.
Exactly.
Also stop talking about soundgarden as if they're still an active thing. Cornell is gone. No Cornell no soundgarden.
Yeah i agree about the Soundgarden thing.

Ten tunes. Ten tunes in 27 years over 7 albums. He finally said fuck this shit.
What a list of songs though!
I hope he has more Cavedweller style material or does more Wellwater. Love that kind of groove from him

It's not a health problem. He would have announced it simultaneously. 0% chance health problem.
What you don't do is announce your next gig at the same time! He is referring to his next music announcement, whatever that might be.

Agree on all of the above.
Stone's solo albums and Wellwater Conspiracy are overwhelmingly my favorite PJ side projects. Would love to see Matt do another WWC record.

Predictably half of the social media comments are some variation of "Bring back Dave A!" which is annoying if only because everyone thinks they are the first person to suggest this. Then it usually turns to "Pearl Jam are still around?" or "They haven't been good since 1994" or other inane statements that everybody thinks is some clever take.
I also don't understand the "He was great in Soundgarden but not in Pearl Jam" comments. He's the same drummer. Both bands play melodic hard rock. Obviously there was a different approach to the songwriting but I've never found his work to be wildly different or somehow lesser in Pearl Jam. I like Soundgarden but obviously feel PJ is the better overall band with a much richer and varied catalogue—I'm sure that is biasing my opinion to a degree but I still say he's done great stuff in both bands. I've never felt the need to choose a side there and don't get why people think they have to.

You don’t know that. He had Covid like 8 times in 3 years. He may have some kind of long-Covid stuff going on.

Sorry, I haven't checked in since last night. Has anyone posted Dave A.'s Facebook message yet?
Leave that poor man alone!

In addition to the ridiculous bring back Dave A. comments, I see people posting in the Pit that they think there's a legit chance that Jack Irons comes back. There's no freakin' way Jack is in any shape to come back full time to PJ. I appreciate Jack's contributions to No Code and Yield but that's where I leave it.

Have they admitted Matt was sick? Sick of seeing those same 20 d-bags on the rail every night?

Yes, wease. There was an agreement reached in April of 2023. Unfortunately, a scant few months later, by November of 2023, Kim (edit: and Matt) did a couple of interviews, once again casting doubt on the outcome, stating that a few new "speed bumps" had arisen.
I can't source that right now, but, it's out there to be Googled. Nothing secret.
One thing I did hear, though, please take it with a grain of salt, as I can't confirm definitively, is that things broke down over Vicky Cornell's insistence that she be allowed to choose an outside producer.
Again, don't hold my feet to the fire on that. For all I know, everything eventually got resolved and things are back on track. I suspect all will be revealed one day.

Vicky sounds like a pain in the ass, from what I've read/heard. Kim, Matt and Ben probably can't stand her.
