Bill Callahan - Rough Travel for A Rare Thing; I always think about buying this LP, but I can never pull the trigger!

I listened to about the first half of Jim James' solo album but wasn't really in the mood; I think it's a pretty good record, but I need to be in a certain headspace for it. The Postal Service came on next, and it's going over pretty well.
The Swans album from last year is probably one of the most amazing things I've heard recently and I'm listening to this track right now.

Nice choice! Saxon Shore is phenomenal!
Anyone into new New Wave? The electro pop stuff that sounds like it is straight transported from the 80's?

Virtually my entire music listening experience lately consists of stoner metal and post rock. All else is nothingness.

I think it's a fucking great album, and succeeds completely in what it sets out to be: a series of catchy, hooky, synth-heavy pop tracks that emphasize melody over melodrama. It's an 80s New Wave pastiche that works because they're such gifted songwriters.
i agree that it succeeds in what it sets out to be, but i'm not sure it has the noblest of intentions. It seems a day late to the synth pop party, and a far too conventional and safe attempt at it.
I love Heartthrob. Although it's probably not my favorite T&S album, it's ridiculously catchy and the synths are well-placed. Bonus points for the fact that my daughter loves it. This will undoubtedly be the album of the summer in our house.
