I do know what you mean, I'm just playing. At worst I think it's a jarring and not entirely necessary part of the song; it's just 'there'. I just enjoy the delivery of 'cus it's been fuuuuucked.' And I'm angry enough at my government to buy the over-sincerity.

The sincerity and sentiment doesn't bother me. It just doesn't sound good

I would argue that 'it doesn't sound good' for the reasons outlined; it's over-sincere and cliched. The call-and-response form is totally in line with the protest nature of the lyrics, but if you don't buy it, it'll sound cringe-worthy (we're allowed that word outside of a PJ context, right?). It's a case of the medium being the message here, I think.

no. Cringe worthy is a shitty fucking phrase and should be hated everywhere.
I like the call and response format elsewhere. But that format really needs to be the centerpiece of whatever it is a part of, or it sounds either insincere or needy at worst, misplaced at best.

actually the part you seem to like the most is the bridge, which I have no problem with

BUT you don't like the chorus either. Which is just beyond my understanding. And since you don't like the chorus, I have to dismiss your opinion of the call/response section of the song.
My issue is that Chud doesn't like it. I can't wrap my feeble brain around that. BUT his most recent explanation of the live versions does make help it make a little more sense. Because those things are hard to pull off, especially in the typically intimate settings The Mynabirds play.
So Pete gets a pass. You, however, still make my brain hurt. Respectfully.

I am only talking about the chorus. The bridge is fine

I would rather read "It's cringe-worthy" than simply "It just doesn't sound good", which is your go-to criticism.

But that's the bit CHUD doesn't like! I am so confused. So it's the chorus ("Calling all my generals...") you don't like? That's even more baffling to me.

I love the chorus to Generals. The first time I heard it I got chills and felt a tremendous empowerment. There may have been some eye mist as well. There is a great strength in those lines.

yes, clearly my biggest flaw is that I don't take the time to describe precisely what I don't like about the things I don't like

2014 should be the year of the third album. That is unless she lied to me.
