One of the best pure rock albums I've ever heard. And the remix makes it even better. Which I would have told you was impossible fifteen years ago.
I heard Oceans today for the first time in a long time. As good as I remembered it being in my head, it was even better. It's so deceptive. It sneaks in so meekly, and by the time you realize how big it's gotten, it slips away.
A friend I hadn't seen for ages and I got drunk last week and we just started playing songs from the old days - we eventually put on Ten and just left it on - while I don't listen to it much by myself it it is an amazing 'communal' set of songs. It made me realise that they lost the sing along quality in their songs after Ten - with the exception of the acoustic stuff on Vs and Betterman. Things like Corduroy and GtF come close I guess. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing but I see why there is such a chasm between that record and the rest of their albums.
While a Western guitar motif lost on the swings drum bass fusion, get your own thoughts into the subconscious often forgotten. "Pendulum" is a sweeping soul from the ballast.

I really don't like Ten that much. No bad songs, but three really good ones and then a bunch I couldn't care less about.

I am glad someone else gets it.

I think in general those two albums are very unique.

Unique needs no modifier. Something is unique or it isn't.

I keep thinking I'm going to actually do a write up now that I've listened to everything again. But it keeps getting further and further away. So, I'll just put this here for now, and get to the write up when I can.

New ranking after Chronological Re-Listening Project:

1. Vitalogy
2. Ten
3. Riot Act
4. Yield
5. Vs
6. No Code
7. S/T
8. Backspacer
9. Binaural

1. Vitalogy - *****
2. Ten- *****
3. No Code - *****
4. Vs. - **** 1/2
5. Yield - ****
6. Binaural - ****
7. Pearl Jam - ****

9. Riot Act - *** 1/2

I'll be happy if album #10 slots in between Binaural and the self titles album.

So far, I've liked all three songs since Backspacer (Ole, Of the Earth, Mind Your Manners) more than just about everything on Backspacer.

It's time to move that guy down.

1. Vitalogy
2. Ten
3. Riot Act
4. Yield
5. Vs
6. No Code
7. S/T
8. Binaural
9. Backspacer

So is stip the only one who doesn't have Backspacer at the bottom?

And Joey...Please keep listening to No Code, it's superior to Riot Act.

Backspacer took a huge slide during my chronological relistening project. I fought dropping it to #9 for a long time. But the strengths of Binaural far outweigh the strengths of Backspacer. Even though I would probably say that Backspacer has fewer outright misses. It's just not as rewarding a listen.
