60's/70's Parlophone pressings for stereo, and the new 2014 pressings for mono.

For stereo, I do not recommend the MFSL pressings, the 1994 pressings or the 2009 pressings. They are all crap IMO.

If you're looking to get a stereo box set, get the old BC-13 box which is made from original stampers. I don't know how much they cost these days, but they're nice. The 2009 box is a joke.
Wow, I completely missed this post until now. Thanks for this WTC!

'And Your Bird Can Sing' is such a fun song to play on bass. I think I need to learn more Beatles' songs. Paul's bass lines are so good.

You will notice that the unreleased songs "Not Guilty" and "What's The New Mary Jane" appear here as they would have been released in 1968, in their authentic original form, and not the bogus frankenstien versions released on "Anthology 3". These tracks are often found in less than stellar quality, but they appear here in official release quality. Indeed, the sound quality is excellent throughout the entire set.

All Tracks on this compilation have been re-equalized. Phase, levels, glitches & dropouts were corrected only in cases when it hasn't been done already by somebody else. Any present noise reduction was applied by the original bootleggers from way back when.

Thanks to Remasters Workshop and everyone else who worked on this stuff before me.

The new stereo/5.1 remix of The Beatles "1" is complete garbage...possibly an all-time low for Apple.

That good, huh?

I guess the posters over at the Hoffman forum are losing their minds.

Not really. 10 years ago they would have. Now that place is filled with kiss-asses who love everything regardless of how bad it is and refuse to tolerate criticism.

Sounds great...

There's new stereo mixes too, isn't there? How are they?

Most of the "new" stereo mixes are practically identical to the originals, with only a handful making use of pro-tools technology like the "Yellow Submarine" and "Love" things. But there is also cheesy digital reverb, a ton of obvious compression that pumps in and out, the EQ is awful and it's brickwalled. "Eight Days A Week" has a very unprofessional "pro-tools trainwreck" at the very end. There are elements that are inexplicably (and obviously) added or removed from some of the mixes. The 5.1 mixes mostly use the front speakers with the back speakers only used for phony ambience, even with the stuff recorded on 8-track. It's surprisingly bad, even by Apple/Abbey Road standards. In terms of the audio, there is nothing good to say about it at all...it's completely worthless.

Wow, don't know how I missed that White Album set above -- thanks, you guys! I am downloading it now.

I don't visit many other message boards -- do all other message boards have such talented and generous people doing stuff like this? Not only for the band that is the subject of the board, but for an array of artists? Sometimes I just feel so damned lucky to have found this place that I wish I could just fly you all to my house for a great big fuckin' hug.

I'd love to hear a good reason why their complete discography hasn't already been given this treatment. Are they just waiting for the next format war?

At this point, I wouldn't want to hear it. Even if they do a good job *mixing* it, they will likely do something to destroy it and it will be an overall bittersweet and disappointing experience. If this is what we have to look forward to....no thanks.
