I heard a lot of them and hated all of it when I was a kid, too. I rediscovered them in my late teens and have loved 'em ever since. Their original run of albums is fantastic, front to back.

As someone who lived through the decade, which songs that have been picked so far surprised you the most?

It's funny you mention that one. I had completely forgotten the Isley Brothers had done a version. I have a soft spot for the Seals & Crofts version. There's something hypnotically sad about it (at least there is for me). I don't think I've ever gone out of my way to listen to it, but whenever it comes on it has my full attention till it ends.

Huh. That really could the doug rr theme song, couldn't it?

For some reason the song always heightens my already raging sense of wanderlust. Which is odd, because the lyrics are almost the complete opposite of that.

since I've been drinking and today is my parents 54th anniversary I'll give this a quick mention...growing up in the 70s my dad traveled a lot for work..gone 3 weeks every month. He would make it a point to always be home on friday night..My mom, being the best cook in the world would always have something special for dinner on friday nights..my dad was a coin collector and got me into it as well when I was really young..he would make sure to have a pocket full of change that I could go through and look for something of value..he would always somehow find a way to slide an old penny or a buffalo nickel in all of it...anyway, great song
