This is what I'm holding out for, too--a consolidated program of finished studio tracks, previously released or not, marketed as a standalone record, not a gawdy, overpriced collector's item. It baffles me how such a release remains a missing addition to so many artists' catalogs. Much as I respect an artist's right to profit from even their most mundane studio indulgence should fans be so inclined to shell for it, the endless deluge of demos and rehearsal takes that typically appear on these deluxe reissues are more interesting on bootlegs. But at the very least I wish artists would exercise the goodwill not to make their fans buy an old album a second time just to get them.

Just ordered a copy of "Louder Than Love" off eBay for $4 with free shipping. Listening to "Down on the Upside" now. Feeling pretty good about both decisions.

My listen to "Down On the Upside" was disrupted by a huge scratch in the middle of the disc. Headed back to eBay and bought a new one for $3, free shipping again. Tough to miss record stores with this kind of convenience at my fingertips.

maybe as an encore at SXSW they'll play a bunch of superunknown b-sides

so nice to see Matt playing with them again so soon after his hiatus :)

makes me feel less worried about him leaving SG spermanently

I hate listening to everything from Superunknown up until today, and then playing Badmotorfinger and hearing how thin it sounds. I hate that shit. Bands record great things, the recording techniques and sounds change, and then records sound drastically different from one to another. I'd love to hear a cohesive body of work and not know I'm listening to a recording that sounds seriously dated based on production and volume.

BMF sounds like someone bouncing a tennis ball against a bass drum.

I'm probably in the minority but I always loved the sludgy BMF sound.

It doesn't sound sludgy at all, though. It sounds like somebody turned the bass all the way down with a shitty EQ.

I love BMF but i guess one of the things i adore about SG is how they went from that sound to Superunknown. They really changed....and im guessing Ben Shepherd has a lot to do with that.

i got over this by:

listening to Superunknown 10,000 times to the point where it is ingrained in my DNA and there is no point in listening to the actual album anymore because it is easily accessible in my head

listening to badmotorfinger often and at extremely high volume

then the contrast is less severe

the problem is, satan might not want to leave after.

they need to play 'new damage' more. sounds so good on Badmotorfinger

BMF certainly sounds of its time but I don't think it sounds bad or unpleasant.

Anyone else prefer the version of New Damage they recorded with Brian May?

Preferable to the album version, except for the Brian May addition.
