There are too many of them, they're all from the same boring classic-rock hit parade, and they're generally not very good.

Pretty much every cover they've added in the last decade or so has been terrible. Fuck the Comfortably Numbs and All Along the Watchtowers of the world, give me Timeless Melody any day.

the number of covers has increased. you used to get like 1,2,3 - with maybe one new unique and 2 staple. but 6 or 7 seems like a bit of a cop out when you start getting in the habit of doing that each show. I know this band has a lot of rich music biz legend friends now that are clearly OK with the PJ shout out / promo performance; but when fans go through the logistical disemboweling it can take to get tickets to these shows and get to the show and 25% of the 30 song set is classic rock covers of other bands its a downer for people interested in hearing pearl jam songs. they have a shitload of albums at this point. enough material to work with or to experiment with to fill that void. suggestions:

- add a few minutes of swamp blues soloing to the end of LTRP live. this is a fadeout in the studio. dont seem to have ever let this organism develop on stage
- play Of The Earth
- play NAIS

instead they are adding cheapo carnival style call and responses to their own formerly impressive live songs, and relying on other people's songs for moments of depth and inspiration at their own show

they are obviously entitled to do whatever they want, and many folks may not mind, but it just seems like they are capable of so much more with the live show using their own music

At least they don't play "Imagine" very often anymore.
Spoiler: show
Yes, this post is a reverse jinx to see if they'll play Imagine on Monday.

It wasn't like that at Fenway. I expected it to be that, but it wasn't.

So many of the things we criticize about the bootlegs don't bother me in person. Ed's warbling, the occasional sloppiness -- it's easy for these things to get consumed by the energy and volume of the event. But it took some willpower to sit through "Imagine" twice.

the bros weren't too bad, but man was there PJ branding everywhere, and i've never seen that many merch tents at a concert. PRAMG in its full glory.

I don't mind this really. There were ample posters and shirts and all that inside for everyone who wanted one but had enough self respect to not sit in line for 7 hours.

I can't disagree with that. I do love Driven to Tears, tho.

I did 3 beer runs last night for my row and had walk past two merch lines. each time it was over 40 deep. Pretty surprising. Coppertom mentioned the couple in front of him pulled $1500 in merch. That's duckling insane.
