Robinsons celebrate 30 years of SYMM, STP celebrates (a bit late) 25 years of Purple...they can even market it like they did that Live/Bush tour last year (and throw in some other minor band to take the Our Lady Peace opener role from that tour)

A Crowes and STP tour sounds like an awfully odd engagement.

yeah but who else could Live Nation reasonably book as a co-headliner for a summer shed tour? There's no way the Black Crowes are doing sheds on their own, even if all the marketing is around a 30th anniversary of SYMM...and the Robinsons, especially Chris, have been cool with the Deleos for years

I suppose they could book them with Heart (THE SIBLING RIVALRY TOUR!), but I can't see either band being on board with that

Rich has had a divorce or two himself, has young kids again, and, per Steve's book, likes the "rich" lifestyle (or at least he did back in the day)

Rich solo and Magpie never drew dick (despite the quality material all around)

Chris' band had some momentum and then it just sort of petered out...that's my thoughts from afar, because CRB sucked ass, so I never paid THAT much attention to it...but the venues he was playing in New England seemed to have downgraded the last couple of years

I finished it today. I was surprised at how obsessed Gorman was with Chris Robinson. I mean, just tell him you're in love with him already. His idolization of Jimmy Page was also pretty off putting. Did he ever take Jimmy's dick out of his mouth long enough to consider that the rest of the band might not want Grandpa on their next record making it his thing?

Playing those shows with Jimmy must have been a thrill but I completely understand why they wouldn't want him trying to find the fountain of youth in their band by having them flesh out his riffs.

Just finished listening to High Water II. It’s really quite good in a not missing Chris Robinson kind of way. I mean I get the Black Crowes getting back together as more lucrative and they put on a great show. I’ll probably try to get those tickets, but I would have loved to see the Magpie Salute at a smaller venue rocking out.

As someone who did see that band several times, I can confirm that it is indeed just a real shame.

Finished Steve's book and honestly I sort of wish I hadn't read it. I pretty much knew things would be the way he lays them out. They're a band of squandered opportunities, time and time again. I want to say that maybe if they didn't have such huge success with SYMM as they did, maybe they would have turned out different. A more grounded, appreciative band for what they had, both onstage as far as musical chemistry and offstage with their very loyal fans. But honestly, I think the Robinson brothers would have found a way to tear whatever they had apart. It also left me more certain than ever that I'd put money back in their fucking pockets. And if they do get back together and Steve ends up a part of it, he's a giant fucking hypocrite after all he says in that book.

Rich Robinson not wanting to write with Jimmy Page was outrageous. I mean, even if you didn't want to use his riffs or whatever, you're on tour with the guy and you have the opportunity to write songs with one of the greatest rock and roll songwriters who will ever be. Not even a couple writing sessions together Rich? Really? Fuck that guy. Nevermind him taking the bus and bailing on his bandmates.

Chris Robinson sounds like a real piece of work. They both do really, but Rich definitely wears it more on the outside whereas with Chris, he has this happy hippie-dippy persona that probably fools most of the fans. I know back in the day, if you would have asked me which one is the bigger problem, I would have said Rich because he was always the one who didn't look like he was having any fun on stage. It was always a weird disconnect to be hearing such amazing stuff coming from the stage, then look over at Rich who looked completely bored and miserable. Turns out they're both assholes, but it sounds like Chris has some real issues. Steve doesn't get into their upbringing much, and indicates that their father was a good guy, but how do two brothers end up so ridiculously competitive and hateful toward each other. Especially when they share such an incredible gift for songwriting with one another? It's pretty bizarre to me.

It was also really cool for me to read Steve's reflection on Luther Dickinson being in the band. I don't think any other guitar player came as close to filling the void left by Marc Ford's departure. Warpaint and Before the Frost...Until the Freeze are exceptional albums in the band's catalog in my opinion, and the live shows of that era were on fire. It's cool to have that opinion/perspective as a fan, but to hear someone from inside the band felt the same way is somewhat validating to my own musical opinions and taste.

I thought Luther was great because he actually put his own spin on it. He was a new guitarist and it felt like that instead of someone just filling in. I loved those shows as well.

however, last time i saw them with Jackie Greene i thought he was a fucking monster. It was actually one of my favorite shows and i was ecstatic thinking he'd be a permanent figure at the time. Oh, silly me.

I believe Steve is done as long as that financial situation stays the same. I can't imagine chris finally "coming to his senses" and that ever changing. Steve was hanging on by a thread for years. He seems happy and still releasing music along with other avenues for his talents.
