Open up the libel laws? Trump says someone told him, “You know, YOU might be sued a lot more.’ I said, You know, I hadn’t thought of that."

Ah, thought he was talking about the Clinton prosecution being dropped.

It's funny that we wouldn't elect a woman but instead elected a bitch.

President-elect Donald J. Trump said on Tuesday that he would “keep an open mind” about whether to pull the United States out of a landmark multinational agreement on climate change.

During his presidential campaign, Mr. Trump repeatedly said he would withdraw from the Paris climate accord. But on Tuesday, he said, “I’m looking at it very closely. I have an open mind to it

He duped all his fucking supporters. Said whatever it took to get elected. Really amazing.

It's been posted before, but: "The media takes him literally but not seriously, his supporters take him seriously but not literally".

Except, I think a lot of his supporters did take him literally. I've talked to plenty of Trump supporters who literally believe Hillary belongs in jail and that Trump is going to bring forth prosecution. These people will not be happy with this.

Also, the idea that you shouldn't take the candidate literally is a pretty big fucking cop out to blatant campaign lies.

Yup. Though Maybe they wont give a fuck because they will be able to twist all logic and make ridiculous justifications instead

I'd expect this is true, but only to a degree. They may not expect "a big, beautiful wall" along the Mexican border that grew 10 feet every time the crowd cheered. But I would think they want something there. And I don't believe for a second a lot of Trump supporters don't want him to go after the 'corruption' of the Clintons.

It's not amazing, it's completely expected. Obama moved sharply to the center after he was elected as well (though admittedly not as fast). When faced with the reality of running a multicultural, pluralist democracy with the largest and most powerful economy and military in the world, the rhetoric of the campaign fades away in favor of trying not to collapse human civilization. Trump is not fascist nor a modern day Hitler. He's just a thin-skinned narcissistic asshole who will hopefully surround himself with competent people.

If Trump does in fact stick with the Paris climate record, then my anxiety level for the next four years is going to go from about a 10 to a 5.

There's been enough outcry today that his social media cronies have had to turn their misinformation machine on their own:

My 2-cent thought on him is that he's definitely not an ideologue in the way liberals were concerned about conservatives during the Bush years. I doubt he gives much of a damn one way or the other about whether humans cause climate change, for example. But I do think his entire way of approaching challenges is to intimidate his critics, go ugly because he thinks he can win in the sewer, and scapegoat anyone he perceives as being weaker than he is. I think that's why he can believe he's not on the same team as some of the ugly stuff we've been seeing, but he allies with them naturally.

He's basically a school yard bully who got an army and a Justice Department for Christmas, and that's going to continue to be a problem no matter what he says about the climate accords. It's easy to put on a presidential face on now, but what happens two years in, when he doesn't like what Congress is doing and he's constantly being harangued by the press? I hope I'm pleasantly surprised, but I doubt it.

One thing I notice, since I live and work there, is a significant amount of the top of that first chart are government or government service worker counties. That might be the reason they overwhelmingly supported Clinton... Trumps open disdain for the federal workforce.

Sounds reasonable. I would add that he is a businessman who relies on his name and image, and the material success of his children rely on it as well. If he pisses off the rest of the globalized world by backing out of treaties left and right, he financially fucks over his family forever and destroys his legacy. I am hoping for the sake of the planet, his ego won't let him.

Yeah. I don't think Myron Ebell cares much for the Paris Climate Treaty.

I don't really understand this line of thought. An agreement is worthless unless it's followed through with, and I don't see any indication that the Trump administration would follow through this regardless.
