And though now it can be a bit ham fisted and repetitive, his shows have always been great (saw him touring the second album in ‘98, opening for RHCP in ‘00, playing MSG in something like 2011, and at Global Citizens in ‘12(?)).
Yeah the live shows have always been great....first time i saw them was late 97 in a very small club in Montreal (Talk Show...STP with different singer, opened)...amazing show! Also saw them opening for Bob Dylan with an accoustic show in 2005 or 2006, then again for their own show in 2008? Always great shows regarless of format.

New song is not my cup of tea.
Wasting Light was their last stand and even that surprised me at the time. No prejudice as I was at Reading 95, Phoenix 96, club shows and many, many places across various time zones including Tokyo, Bangkok, Sydney, Seoul, Singapore, LA, New York and Paris. Early and latter days.
If we ever think Pearl Jam are a parody, then remember this shambles of a band.

I remember Dave in 1997 with The Colour...even his approach to the videos was new back then. And he was super cool. These days its like the guy is a parody of redneck rock and roll guy. After Wasting Light the band made little effort to actually try something else, even if he is trying to come up with these big ideas.
Its weird.

Yeah, I have a friend that is super fan and defend Sonic Highways with his life, he tells me: How can you not like this? Is Zeppelin, Queen, all into one. And while I really like those bands, I have no interest in listening the FF making that kind of music. The dwelling into the past to release something innovative is so tricky.

What is tough about Sonic Highways is it was an opportunity for them to really explore different avenues based on the different cities and studios they were in. Instead it’s just another Foo Fighters album with a few cool songs, and at the very best analysis, has a superficial element of that city/studio. The songs aren’t bad, but they could have easily just done that in one studio with the guests they wanted.

Random thought:
The Colour and the Shape (the song) should have been the first track on the album instead of Doll.

Hahaha sounds like a skip for me, but I like albums 1-3, some of 5, 7 and 9 generally, so I'm in a weird man's land.

Nirvana probably mastered the quiet-loud-quiet-loud-bridge-loud formula. Foo Fighters took this formula and successfully ran with it for a few years then ran it into the ground. Is it more of that same?
