Do atlanta sports fans really care enough about the hawks to deserve a new arena?

I know stats are not the end all end all. But one of these point guards was named to the All-Summer League 2nd Team while the other was referred to as having a horrible summer league. I read articles about how the Nuggets are in incredible hands and the future looks amazing. Then I read how the other was a major disappointment and the Lakers are in trouble. To me I think both looked like crap. I don't see much difference. What the heck am I missing? I know one was drafted earlier but just don't get how people see things that didn't really happen.

One plays for LA and has a ton of media scrutiny. The other plays for Denver.

Man, I really like what Pop is doing with Hammon. I didn't realize until recently that she sat in on meetings for a year before being hired. She was injured and missed her WNBA season. If she is as good a coach as a lot of the Spurs players apparently think she is, I sure hope she gets her shot.

No doubt. I just read an interview with her and she wouldn't stop about how smart he is. She also seemed incredibly smart when talking basketball. I can't be a Spurs fan, but I'm a fan of hers.

The most recent episode of the A-Z NBA Podcast by USA Today had an interview with her. I too was impressed.

I always thought she was cute when she played. She is a lesbian, so I've read, I wonder if that had any barring on her being allowed to show that she is a fantastic coach. It shouldn't matter but I wonder if it played a part. I hope she gets a head coaching job someday. She's already a better coach than several of these assistants in the league. Mark Madsen for the Lakers has to be the worst coach I've ever seen at any level. That Lakers summer league team was uncomfortable to watch. The players played like crap but the coaching was despicable. The Spurs summer league team looked so organized and everyone seemed to know their roles and execute. Becky Hammon is the primary reason for that in my opinion.

What has she done that has put her in a class above all the other assistant coaches in the league? A lot of good nba head coaches have paid their dues for YEARS before getting a shot but Hammon is the next great head coach in waiting? Why? Nobody would even be paying attention if she wasnt a woman.

For sure this is true. But with guys like Derrick Fisher getting given jobs with no dues being paid and then absolutely sucking at it, I think giving a job to Becky Hammon in the next year or two isn't a stretch. If she was not a woman and was given a job quick, I don't think anyone would really think twice about it. But BECAUSE she is a woman people will use the DUES against her. Pop's assistants have all been getting head coaching jobs. We are getting coach's like Kidd, Fisher, Kerr, Mark Jackson etc who have had zero coaching experience. Also David Blatt with zero NBA coaching experience. The days of being groomed and having to wait 10 years are not a must anymore. I think if they see a good coach who players love to play for, they might give her a shot. She may fail miserably but Patrick Ewing can't get a head coaching job but Derrick Fisher can so throw dues out the window. Some may say well Fisher knows the triangle offense, exactly why there are reasons beyond dues that can get someone a head coaching job whether they have proved anything or not these days.

Blatt has coached overseas and traveled a long path. Mark jackson and derek fisher needed to sit on a bench for a while. They were products of the same kind of hype train hammon is on. I fear the Bulls are about to go through the same thing with Hoiberg and he has front office and major college bball experience. Also a pro for 7 or 8 years. A lot of people are still unsure of him. If Hammon could inherit what Kerr got sure but a rebuild like denver would eat her alive.

I can almost guarantee that Pop and R.C. have a plan that will have her replace Pop when he stops coaching. They enjoy being trailblazers too much to not let that happen.

Unless she proves herself as an assistant that would be incredibly foolish. Is it worth potentially setting the franchise back just to say 'we got the first girl coach look how progressive we are?'
