There are 3 posters on RM who have carte blanche immunity as long as I'm a mod and Farmer John in one of them.

Today I saw two good movies
I definitely underestimated The Zone of Interest before watching. It's gonna stick with me for some time. You kind of want something loud to happen to break the thick air of crushing mundanity, and the relief never comes. As I walked out I started questioning my choice of following it so closely with Ferrari, and felt like maybe I was in for some lethal psychic damage, but it was actually kind of a wonderful pairing. A bit like eating a creamy Italian gelato after a hearty dish of bratwurst and sauerkraut. What a ball. Some left-of-center choices in terms of filmmaking and especially editing. Michael Mann is a madmann.

You're pushing yourself too hard with these psychic whiplashes! It's too dangerous. You're gonna blow your circuits!

Both movies sound interesting. Don't see a problem with seeing both after each other. Glad you had a good time Jorge.

Not as good as I'd hoped. It's tonally uneven. All the components are there but they don't quite add up. I should have loved this movie.
Bottoms is similar and way better.

Burn After Reading. Such a frivolous good time, every time. I forget how funny it is. Probably my second favourite Brad Pitte perfourmance, after OUATIH. Malkovitch is great too.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Watched The Ascent (1977) over the weekend… one of the best and most underrated war movies.

Just threw in my criterion Blu-ray of The Royal Tenenbaums. I haven't watched this movie in ages.

another failed trip to the movie theater:
I was gonna watch Land of Bad but I got the time wrong so I watched a bit of Wonka instead. It was a movie for little kids, so I can't really say anything about it other than I thought Chalamet sucked. Generic and uninspired.
I left after about 40 minutes and went to see Madame Web for shits and giggles. Hoping it was so bad it was good, and it sort of was, but it was mostly boring and I left after about 45 minutes. It was incredibly amateurish. The on-the-nose dialogue, the bizarre character motivations, the forced conflict, the choppy and hacked together editing - everything sucked. It was funny to watch the characters do the most absurd things with no justification. Nothing made any sense.
Still amazed that movies like that make it to the big screen without anyone saying something.
Sweeney looked good in a skirt though.

Last night I watched Dune with my parents (seeing part 2 tomorrow)
Tonight I'm watching Ride Lonesome - an old Randolph Scott Western with James Coburn, Lee VanCleef and Pernell Roberts.
