I'd like to, but they're not on any of the streaming services I pay for. Maybe I'll pay to watch Ringu. I haven't seen The Ring since a little after it released, but I remember it being great and everyone saying the original was better.
Ringu is subtle, tense, and amazing

Drive Away Dolls.
Yeah, that was just not good at all. I didnt enjoyed what Qualley was trying to do. The whole cast seems so self conscious really. The movie is just not funny.

The Royal Hotel.
What a disappointment after the great The Assistant. This one is just unnecessary. Julie Garner is great but everyone in this movie is just a big stupid awful human being.

Inside Llewyn Davis. I've seen this before, but didn't remember a lot of it. This is my first time enjoying it, having realistic expectations, not expecting something like No Country for Old Men. I don't think I finished it all the way to the end before. I'm confused about the time loop aspect of it. Does it mean anything more or is it just a fun little touch? Maybe it's saying he's stuck in this lifestyle and can't get out of it, and we're supposed to pity him or something. There's obviously something romantic about his life, as miserable as it is, being set in the early 60's Greenwich Village folk scene and all, but I don't see the ultimate point of the movie. Maybe it's meant to just be an interesting, darkly humourous, romantic visit to the scene and that there's no more point than to enjoy the tunes and the aesthetic. I enjoyed it, but don't know anybody I would recommend it to, which makes it feel more special to me. Also, gotta say, really good singing and playing by Oscar Isaac. Talented young man. Thinking about it more, it's not really a time loop. They just show the end at the beginning of the movie, and then show the end with more detail at the end of the movie. No big deal, except we get to see Bob Dylan is the guy following him, after his act. Wait, maybe it's about Ulysses the cat. In the beginning, he accidentally, irresponsibly lets the cat out of the apartment, who, like our protagonist, goes on an odyssey, finally returns home, and then when given another chance at the end of the movie, he doesn't let the cat out, which is saying something. Maybe it's best just to stay home and be content with where you are, once you've experienced what's out there (or not), for you.

rewatched The Red Shoes while dog-sitting for my profoundly reactionary boss, whose house is littered with various statues of small black men, often cartoonishly rendered. next time i hound-sit, i'm logging into his hbomax and watching the battle of algiers & whatever pasolini I can find.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I had Rebel Moon playing in the background while I was in the garage this morning. Didn't catch most of it, but what I did catch was so bad, the shots, the acting and the glaring errors - like towards the end - the bad guy gets his teeth knocked out (They make a big show of his teeth scattering along the ground - whole, not broken) and then a few scenes later he's grimacing with all his teeth intact
