3. The real problem here is that people might not want to risk death for pennies, having experienced life with the equivalent of a living wage....many for the first time in their lives.

4. Amazingly, there are people who can make all of the above arguments and never ask the obvious question.

Who are you even talking to at this point McP? Me or some strawman? That's all wild exaggerations of my post assigning meanings and motivations you seem to desperately want to be there but aren't. It's sad, you are better than that.

This is what makes me skeptical about the antibody news coming out of NYC and NYS (and everywhere, I suppose). According to what we've heard, one in four New York City residents may have had the coronavirus based on tests from random people on the street, but only one in ten NYPD officers have the same? It just makes me feel like we're jumping to conclusions on the virus' prevalence headline-by-headline and test-by-test.

Isnt the transmission issue about population density? Queens and the Bronx driving most of the numbers? The strap hanger crowd is far more likely to be infected than people who sit in cars or stand in intersections all day.

I'm not sure how likely that is; first responders often are dealing with the same density as everyone else, and on top of that, are constantly in situations in which they're dealing with the public, often with individuals who are ill and in distress. Even the FDNY numbers (which I'd presume would include their EMS workers, which are more likely than practically anyone to be dealing in close quarters with infectious coronavirus patients) is below the population average? I think the simpler explanation is that we're dealing with a barrage of inconsistency based on preliminary testing and results.

I'm pretty concerned the tests are junk and don't give us an accurate picture of what has really gone on.

I believe I am talking about a group of people very articulately described by you. You (correctly, I think) summarized their view of the lockdown as:

So, in juxtaposing those two arguments (the lockdown is a heartbreaking violation of personal liberties / employers should be able to feed workers who don't feel safe coming back to work during a pandemic to the sarlacc pit), which have recently been almost simultaneously expressed by a single, very concentrated group and worldview, I felt a sense of bafflement....which I expressed as

I worked at a food bank this morning. It was just car after car after car for the 3 hours they were open. So depressing.

I snuck a family an extra pineapple b/c the kids were so excited to get one. That made me feel good.
