Picture has really grown on me. Its fun, joyful vibe is perfectly placed on the album.stip wrote:the end of picture bumps it up at least 1.5 stars

Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
the shock of this album is similar to gigaton, in that i didn't expect it at all. after hearing 'the long way' i thought this was going to be all mellow, mid-tempo singer-songwriter stuff. that's not what we got at all. i def did not expect some of these songs to be so aggressive. the vocal melodies are also some of the best i think EV's ever written. it's just mind blowing he released this at this stage in his career. the is the best EV solo record, and the live shows remind me of c-average, just with better musicians.

Have people started to realise that this album is not very good yet? Or are we still in rose tinted glasses phase

Look at the poll result and do the math. Come back again maybe 10 years from now and we'll see.Huell wrote:Have people started to realise that this album is not very good yet? Or are we still in rose tinted glasses phase

I thought it was good to begin with but I have found that the rockier songs are really repetitive, power of right and try especially . Also the production is so harsh. I would have given it 4 to begin with but now at 2.5
No one needs to lose their shit, there is usually over the top positive vides around album release followed by tempered reflection

It's at a 4 right now for me, but it could easily fall down to a 3. There are 4-5 truly excellent songs on this.Huell wrote:I thought it was good to begin with but I have found that the rockier songs are really repetitive, power of right and try especially . I would still place it at a 4.0. While I am currently enjoying nearly all of it, I will say the songs seem destined to fall into a few categories:
Songs that will stay great for me: Invincible, The Dark, Rose of Jericho, Mrs. Mills, On My Way
Songs that will go from great to good: Power of Right, Brother the Cloud, Fallout Today, Try
From Good to Fine: Good and Evil, Long Way
Fine to Poor: Picture
Still sucks: The Haves

i'm still in the newlywed stage with this album and tour. I'm sure i won't be as high on it, but i still love gigaton almost as much as i did when it first came outHuell wrote:I thought it was good to begin with but I have found that the rockier songs are really repetitive, power of right and try especially . You're not forecasting any upward trajectory for any songs on the album, liebz?

Not really. I don’t at least hear much in the way of the typical nuances that make songs grow with me. This is a very straight forward album, and the usual trajectory for me with those is I get too used to the pattern and it falls off. On My Way is probably the one that has the most potential in that regard.washing machine wrote:You're not forecasting any upward trajectory for any songs on the album, liebz?

On a long enough timeline, does everything but the "will stay great" songs decline into a "poor" rating?

Re: Eddie Vedder - Earthling
I feel a lot like this; I think this album has 10 really good songs on it, and 3 that I can tolerate, but there's not enough depth in the sound of it (production, instrumentation, composition) for me to keep discovering new thingsliebzz wrote:Not really. It's really bad (at best, totally forgettable) - and yet almost everyone here seems to be going bananas for it.Huell wrote:Have people started to realise that this album is not very good yet? Or are we still in rose tinted glasses phase
