Generation just posted a bunch of original press Little Johnny Jewel 7 inches on Ork that were in a lost basement box or something. I snagged one from their site yesterday, didn't want to take the walk in the cold and see if they were in store.

It always kind of blows my mind that store is still going.

I like that they have everything and I like that they are fairly priced. I wish mostly that they had no idea what they were doing so I could grab some albums cheap but I find the retailers are now too educated. 10 years ago you could go in and grab a classic album in VG for like $1-$5. Those days are long gone.

I had high hopes for a few shops along Bleecker that were not amongst the more famous names, but they too know what they are doing. (This is where I lament the loss of Bleecker Street Records, which I scurried around a lot in my youth).

Oh yeah, we spent a lot of time in the basements of both Generation and Bleeker in high school. Its mostly dreck nowadays though.

A1 is still going strong (thank god), the newer TTL is always nice, and I even fuck with Stranded every now and then.

Two Bridges is great and super curated, like the old OM days where you can find something you never heard of before and fall in love. Ditto Commend on Forstyh.

A few weeks ago I popped my head into Academy on 12th, but I wasn’t crazy about what they had. I am always happier with the larger annex in Brooklyn - even though they moved it and is now so much more inconvenient.

On a side note, I popped into this record store yesterday, between W4th and Bleecker St somewhere and had that $8 Reactor in my hands when this dude came in asking for Trans - asking for it! The guy said he didn’t have it but I was stunned because that is the one used album I can regularly find and got my copy for $1 many years ago. He said his friend recommended it. I said “that’s a crazy album so make sure you know what you are getting into.” He laughed. As a side note, I have come to enjoy Trans. I also use it as the reference point for an artist that does a complete 180.

Yeah, I can walk to Oak from work which is good cause otherwise, I wouldn't get out there as much. it was always a shelp and I never made it out without spending too much.

I like the Academy on 18th too, but yeah 12th has been hit or miss for me recently.

It’s probably been 15 years since I walked into the one on 18th but I absolutely need to. That is the best organized of the bunch and I do want some jazz records.

Hawks & Doves and Reactor were done a long time ago when he first started the series, by reissuing a few albums that weren't available on CD yet. American Stars & Bars and On The Beach too, but those were reissued a second time when he did the whole discography up to Live Rust.

This Note's For You, too. They were pressed in 2018, all re-mastered by CB at BGM, the whole nine yards, except they weren't 180-gram pressings and come in the slimmest of packaging.

Oh, okay. I was talking about the first digital versions at the very start of the Archive series which was quite a long time ago, maybe 15 years. Did they come out in vinyl then? I remember there were DVD-A's of those.

They did (Reactor, This Note, and Hawks and Doves) but with like no fanfare or announcement. I didn't even see them until they were in a clearance bin: https://www.discogs.com/Neil-Young-This ... e/12460256

what's a good way to clean a vinyl so you get stuff off but don't leave it a static mess?

I got a Spin Clean a few years ago and really liked the results. I now live in a very dry environment and static can be a real issue for everything. No problems yet with records though.

huh. well it's been really dry and cold here lately so that's definitely part of it.

I'll check out the spin clean.

I really need to clean up my receiver. That should be my next step.

However, instead, ill spend $140 at the record store

speaking of receivers: I notice that I have to turn it up a fair amount to get volume out of it, is that part of the process or no?
