I haven't been able to figure out how to say what i wanna say about Backspacer and what i want the new album to be, and i still don't know if this is it, but i really want the songs to be more meaningful. We might never get it back wholesale, but I do hope that we don't have anything silly spoiling an otherwise good album. Or if we do have anything silly (I'm not against silly), I want it to be actually funny. It's got to work. Johnny Guitar, for me, was a song which had a fun sense of humour and it worked. It was funny and whimsical. Supersonic, not so much.

They have a decent amount of fun songs through out their career, but not a whole album. I really think they do need something political that they don't agree with to motivate them.

Yeah, very much so. But I was really talking in the context of a band that really isn't funny very often. If they want an album with a sense of humour, they'll need to recreate past glories and I'm not sure if they can. Johnny Guitar was notable because that wit is so rare for them.

I can see why you'd describe that as darkly funny, but that one in particular has always wigged me right out.

But, to your point, I do think Crash by DMB is pretty funny. I mean, in they way you're describing. Like, so many of my high school friends think it's this tremendously romantic song. But it's really just a dude wacking off in the bushes watching some chick through her bedroom window.

I find that hilarious.

I'm not sure I've heard Crash by DMB.

But about The Police song... really I just find it funny that it's become a cliche wedding song. Like, it's played at so many weddings and people aren't aware what it's really about.
