Fading Gigolo. John Turturro sinks to a level of creepy wish-fulfillment I haven't seen since Woody Allen's Celebrity.

I'm surprised you were even willing to subject yourself to that.

I'll watch anything Woody Allen is in.

The Rover was pretty weak, and I didn't like Animal Kingdom when i watched it either.

Amazing Spiderman 2 - maybe it's because it was on in the background and I wasn't paying much attention, but I actually enjoyed it. More than most Marvel movies.

-How I Live Now: Total fucking masterpiece; I can't believe no one is talking about it. It's the antidote to modern YA movies. A beautiful, contemplative, evocative film that treats teenagers with adult dignity, with mature sex, casual profanity, and brutal, disturbing violence. The cinematography and visuals are gorgeous, the use of music is excellent, and the film is edited with a barely contained energy and vitality. The film feels alive. Best movie I've seen in a while.
Agreed with all of this - that was a breath of fresh air.

I really liked it. Art direction especially. But I'm not sure who it's aimed at.
Was it a kids film or not? Still. Enjoyable stuff.
i'm eager/curious to see this movie.
i gave up reading the novel about halfway though. it began like some kind of road movie full of interresting scientific asides but soon drifted into a long and dull bit that i couldn't be bothered to read.

I was sick this weekend so I watched a bunch of movies.

Relatos Salvajes. It was OK.
Wagner & Me. Very cool. Loved Fry's enthusiasm for the music, even if he was incorrect on a few accounts (like suggesting Wagner invented diminished sevenths).
Good Ol' Freda. Liked it a lot.
Julie & Julia. Felt shlocky and dishonest, even though I really liked the leads.
A Fantastic Fear of Everything. Hated every second.
Meat. Every bit as weird as I remember it being. Twice as fun now that I know where it goes.
The Pig Forgot to Wipe. Sublime.
Hook. What the fuck, this movie is awful.

the Hook? Dustin Hoffman, Julia Roberts, and Robin Williams? That movie is fantastic. You're being miserable if you feel otherwise.

I watched it out of childhood + Robin Williams nostalgia, but goddamn, other than Dustin Hoffman's performance, that movie is pure garbage. Apparently even Spielberg hates it.

The nostalgia still carries it for me, but objectively it's not great. I remember being so mystified by what was going on with the Tink Wants To Get It On With Pete scene as a kid.

How about the part where he falls into the ocean (which is very clearly a badly designed and not-very-big water tank) and starts making out with a bunch of mermaids for some reason

I watched it with my daughter within the last 2 years and it still resonated pretty strongly with me. I guess I don't really give a shit about any of the technical problems with it. Emotionally it's a great movie and the performances are very strong all around.

He was a grouchy old fuck whose lips probably hadn't touched his own wife's in a passionate way in years. Of course he's grinning. His dick was getting hard.
