Really love this particular vibe, particularly around Halloween. The Monster Squad, The Blob ‘88, Night of the Creeps, and Killer Klowns from Outer Space also fit nicely in this groove.tommy wrote:Fright Night 1985
This was a really good time. Reminded me of Lost Boys, Return of the living dead and Gremlins (three movies I love)

Godzilla Minus One
Fun movie, really captured the spirit of the older films and elevated the “after the war is hell too” theme without resorting to being cheesy

Rewatched Automata (2014)
Certainly a flawed movie, but I love the look and tone of it. Cool robot designs too.
Also watched something called AI Rising on Prime. It's a Serbian film (no not that one!) Very artsy and stars a porn star but she's actually pretty good. The movie itself is pretentious and dumb, though.

I had my parents over for dinner and a movie tonight. I made chicken Alfredo and garlic bread and we watched To Live and Die in LA. Goddamn, what a movie. One of the best car chases put to film, a crazy ending and Willem Defoe's ass - what more could you ask for?

Last night I watched On the Waterfront. It was a great movie, but afterwards I read that the movie was a defense of Elia Kazan's decision to rat a bunch of people out to the House Unamerican Activities Committee and it left a sour taste in my mouth.

Forgot to mention the killer soundtrack from Wang Chung.

Pale Blue Eye. Kinda silly, but the performances are good.

Gasoline Rainbow
I love how it was shot and how good it looks but there is nothing else basically here. It’s still enjoyable but I prefer Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets.

Re: What movies are you watching?
Been on a good run with my last three.
-Chameleon Street (1989)
First read about this years ago via Armond White's 1991 review in his book The Resistance. Always wanted to see it since and it's only recently become available at last. Wouldn't say I unabashedly loved it or anything but it's solid and interesting work, and I Wendell Harris should have gone on to a prosperous career. Shameful the industry iced him out afterward.
-Street Mobster (1972)
Kinji Fukasaku was electric when he was in his wildman groove, and he was very much in that here. Unhinged and frenetic stuff - one of the more energetic movies I've ever seen.
-Out of Order (1984)
Tight, lean, and ambitious German thriller set primarily in an elevator. Really strong direction and good performances, with some genuine suspense. Loved the after hours office building vibes.
