I'm from a country that was torn to shit by a violent socialist insurgency which led to decades of war, death, and rape. I have friends and family members from neighboring countries who have been personally and directly affected by deeply corrupt socialist regimes, even driven out of their homes for being labeled political opponents. I think there are many socialist policies that are common sense and would help the populace as a whole, but I don't think socialism is beyond reproach (I've openly criticized Latin American socialism here many times). When the argument that the "Nazis were socialists" comes up, it's almost always a disingenuous bad-faith response to progressive, pro-worker policies that would materially improve many people's lives, and I feel compelled to speak up. But I don't think I would call myself a socialist either, not on those broad terms. And I also don't think a Bernie Sanders win would result in the US becoming a socialist country

Both my parents are Cuban refugees (came to US 1961). It’s a complicated issue in general, sometimes it seems like both sides of it go too far. It’s understandable, I guess. Some people see socialism as evil, some see it as providing some common sense measures, as you pointed out.

I vote in local elections and that’s it. Doesn’t really have anything to do with what the presidential election is about.

It has everything to do with it. Pinning all your hopes for change on a national candidate, and being angry at the national party, without becoming regularly involved at the local/county/state level is perfectly fine behavior... But spewing rage when things don't go your way is ridiculous behavior. If you're so hard-up for Bernie's platform, or the change he espouses, but otherwise despise the Democratic party, then become involved, and try to get some socialist dems into your down-ballot offices.

I will absolutely not be spending any of my time not already eaten up by my soul-sucking full time job on politics
