95% of COVID-19 deaths in MN have been people aged 60 or older. 99% were 50 and older.

Less than 1% of the deaths have been people aged 50 or younger.

In Minnesota, 0.0667% of those that have contracted COVID-19 have died (343 out of 5,136 cases).

Minnesota has approximately 5.7 million people in 2020. That means 0.0009% of Minnesotans have contracted the virus (in other words, 99.9991% haven’t) and a minuscule 0.00006% of our population has died from COVID-19 (and 99.99994% haven’t died). And remember, as I stated before, the VAST majority of all COVID-19 deaths have stricken people that have major underlying contributing factors.

These are the facts. And numbers like these should not scare the average Joe and his family, and they definitely don’t warrant a continued state wide mandatory shutdown.

My friend hasn’t left his house, and is still self quarantined. They have told all their family and friends that they will stay quarantined for two full weeks after she recovered. They have been completely responsible. And that’s how it should be.
I guess the point I was trying to make was that you have a very large percentage of asymptomatic carriers who end up shedding the virus. Unless people wear masks and distance that's going to be a huge problem.
I’ve also read studies that show the opposite. Carrying the virus and having your immune system create antibodies is also a way to slow the effects of the virus. Take a look at Sweden. They didn’t shut down. They didn’t close businesses or go into isolation, and they are statistically no worse off. Actually they are doing far better than some places that went to extremes to prevent spread. My point is, this is all a bit of guess work. Even the most educated scientists are still guessing to a degree. Obviously, trying to be safe and considerate to others is a good thing in any situation. This situation included. But anyone acting like they know all the data or have all the answers is ludicrous. And crippling millions and millions of families financially, and the mental toll that takes on families absolutely needs to be strongly considered. That isn’t being heartless, it’s being compassionate. It is possible (likely) that the number of people financially crushed by government overreach could far outnumber the number of people dying from its infections.
Yep - those great Southern Lands that went hard on this aren't fairing very well with this virus

Deaths per million:
Finland - 38
Norway - 39
Sweden - 256

I don't understand how anyone can say Sweden has done well. They've been one of the hardest hit countries in the world, and it looks even worse when compared to other countries in the area. They've done a horrible job.

6.67% of people who have contracted it have died. Not .0667%.

Not to mention more than half the cases there are still listed as "active". So 13.6% of resolved cases have been deaths. (Of course, the real number is likely much lower since Minnesota isn't doing a whole lot of testing.)

Conservatives really like to hammer about that article regarding Sweden. My girlfriend has friends there and I do too, and by some accounts , the Swedes are taking it very seriously. While it’s not mandatory shut down they have all pretty been basically locking themselves down and taking all the Same precautions.

That article going around is hilarious because it’s accompanied by a ridiculous out of season photo of people gathering

Additionally as that article states Sweden has like three time as many deaths as their neighboring countries who have been mandatory lockdown.

Just Fucking calm down people. No reason to march with guns. Just be patient a little bit longer and we can all go to little Johnny’s soccer game again soon. I don’t know why this has become a political shit show

Trump isn’t going to be a lifelong dictator. Democrats aren’t coming into your house to take your guns. The government isn’t trying to enslave you.

When did people get so goddamn Fucking insane ?

The people of Sweden seem pretty happy with it:

*I am not endorsing their behavior. I am not claiming special knowledge of the exact opinion polls at this moment or changes since the poll referenced here was taken. I am not endorsing opening any state now or until there is relative consensus in the medical and scientific community.

What I hate about the article going around for people who are using it as justification for "herd immunity" and ending the lock down is that it assumes that because its not mandatory, that the swedes themselves havent been taking it seriously and are just out and about as normal.

Which is not the case.

That's more "a person" than "the people". It's also from nearly three weeks ago, when things started to get really bad in Sweden. It also ignores that the only reason the total number of cases is so low is because they're testing at less than half the rate of comparable countries, so they're only identifying the serious cases, which completely explains the ludicrously high death rate there among those infected.

Without going too far into the rabbit hole, the notion that Sweden is doing "better" than other countries, that things have proceeded as normal there, and that we'd be able to mirror Sweden here in the United States is problematic.

My primary misunderstanding with the "open it back up" crowd is that they seem to have a blind spot for what happened in New York, a place where it seems you had an unfortunate combination of community spread before it was locked down and waiting a bit too long to lock down when realizing what the problem actually is. The number of deaths (and number of deaths in relation to reported cases) has been astronomical. But honestly, what do you think happened elsewhere in the country? The virus just decided to "stop" being less severe on a dime?

Isn't the far simpler explanation that NYC didn't close down in time and has suffered a huge number of deaths as a result, while the majority of the rest of the states were able to instill practices to slow the spread of the virus before it became widespread in their communities? There's been no effective treatment developed, no vaccine, nothing's happened otherwise to halt the spread of it. The only factor that changed was actions that were done to slow the transmission rate. Do you think the virus just decided to change when it left NY and MN or Wyoming or wherever?

No, things like bars, nightclubs, and amusement parks are still closed along with swimming pools. They can all reopen in two weeks (with guidelines like capacity restrictions, social distancing) on the 13th unless Kemp backtracks.

From the article:

"Stefan Löfven’s approval ratings were very low – sitting around 25% - in January, but the government’s handling of the pandemic crisis has been widely approved by the citizens of Sweden, including supporters of the main opposition party Moderaterna (right wing, by Swedish standards, thus basically center left or moderate Democrats by US standards). Löfven’s approval ratings have now shot up dramatically to about 50%."

I have no idea if it's different today.

Yeah Sweden is doing super.
Here’s the thing: people don’t just die from this. They die horribly. They drown in their own fluids. They lie tightly restrained in an emergency room while something pink and wrong and frothy is pulled out of their lungs. The ones who aren’t intubated scream for help until their lungs stop feeding their voice. And then, trapped and scared and often alone, they asphyxiate.

We can save tens of thousands of people from having to die this way. It requires us to behave in a manner that is prudent, calculated, humane, and (yes) expensive. It requires personal sacrifice. It requires struggle. But this is also one of the defining moments of your life. How you respond to this moment...what you’re willing to sacrifice, and who you’re willing to abandon to protect what’s left...is a revealer of your truest self.

This is history book stuff. You, right now, are living, breathing history. This is the version of you that stands before all eternity to be judged.
