I know people really love that book. It didn't do anything for me.

Same. I bailed right around the point Mickey’s at.

I'm enjoying it enough so far but again, it's the thing I do between taking melatonin and feeling my eyelids get heavy, so in a way being bored is kind of the point.

Started this the other night on Kindle and about 20% in. It's fine! I hated Fortress of Solitude so I'm apprehensive, but I wanted a bedtime read I didn't have to think too hard about.

Over halfway through here, hasn't gotten better but it hasn't gotten worse either, though I'll admit that I've read maybe 10% of it pretty sauced.

even 12-13 years ago when i liked and was reading lethem's books, i think what was actually happening was an attempt to realize my desire to like them, particularly Fortress of Solitude

Do you read much Gibson? His style transcends the genre for me. I can see Neuromancer reading pretty dated in 2021, but his recent trilogies are something else entirely. If you ever feel like giving him another shot, Pattern Recognition is essential Gibson. Joey and malice are fans as well. Not what I would call "sci-fi" so much as I would call slow-burn techno suspense, fwiw.
