A lot of the rap I grew up with wasn't at all. Stuff like Public Enemy, Boogie Down Productions, Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets, and the like were really really good without being misogynistic, or violent. I know there are rappers out there today like that, but I just don't listen to much new rap, or new music in general much anymore.durdencommatyler wrote:Of course. I'm not even talking about overt references to misogyny or violence (though the 'bitches and niggas' shit gets old fast). Just the tone of almost every song I hear is like a mean spirited attack. That said, maybe I actually did like it better when it was just crazy violent and hateful gangsta rap. This political shit is as annoying as it is when Homeboy Eddie is doing his annoying political shit.
