Don't even start this. The best baseball players in the world play in MLB, they come from countries across the world to compete in the league with the highest level of talent. There's no reason why the MLB champion series can't be called the World Series since you know, it's the best players in the world playing.

Not too many bands going around these days that would put up set lists like that over a 4 night stint. Hard to really complain about it with a straight face (the variety, not performance).

The funny thing is that the "rare" songs were awful performances anyway. They shouldn't have even bothered. Aside from "Parting Ways", I don't think any of the rare songs will be making anyone's mix tape anytime soon. The whole band sounds like they're brain damaged.

I witnessed the Philly performance of "Evacuation" and it was like watching a bunch of retards who were just learning how to play their instruments. And the audience couldn't tell the difference because they don't know how "Evacuation" goes anyway. That kind of says it all.

That Parting Ways was surprisingly good. The rest was piss poor though.

I think its an example of the band trying to do something very cool and awesome but not being willing to put the time in to actually practicing and getting shit right.

These days I'm very much in the "shorter sets, less variety, play the songs well" camp, but I don't see the band heading that way anytime soon. Too many festivals and stadium shows to play.

yea I feel as though this shows supposed sloppiness is well exaggerated at this point. Yes - there are a few sloppy moments but overall there are some pretty fierce versions throughout the 4 night run.

Oh, yeah. DTE live in Sept. 1998 was amazing. The frenzy it whips the crowd into makes it the perfect song to walk off the stage after. Choosing that close the main set for a bunch of the shows is the north east in 1998 was a brilliant move and one piece of the 'PJ concert formula' I wish they would go back to.

I think your definition of "frat" is exceedingly broad and/or way off base.

Sports are popular to a wide range of folks. Having your city in the World Series is a huge deal to a large percentage of citizens. There's nothing out of the ordinary with how Pearl Jam incorporated that into the show. They were having fun with it.

Finally listend to the '98 show up until Daughter and I'll repeat the sentiment of most, which is that it's fantastic.

The interplay between the guitars and the subtle little licks really stand out here.

Also, I think it would be good for Ed to revisit the style/register he sings with on songs like Hail, Hail and Daughter. Would have loved him to sing like that throughout Riot Act - relatively low key but with some lift and pockets of power.
