It’s born out of the fixer to these ears.
No bad thing.

On first listen, macphisto said it reminded him of Brain of J.

I hear just a uniquely great song that doesn't really have a parallel in their catalogue. It's like 3 songs in one; takes so many unexpected turns with each more exciting than the previous one.
The part from 2:30 onwards is my favourite thing on the album. This is a great song and I'll say it again without hesitation: best opener since Last Exit.

It doesn't have the punch of Brain of J. Not saying that you can't say that it's just as good or better.

I don’t think it’s trying to. Apart from being openers they’re doing very different things musically I’d venture.

I agree. It wasn't meant as a knock on the song.

other than pretty much all of dance 2:30-4:30 may be the high water mark of the album

I like how well the chorus sits not matter what verse or interlude came before it. The open chords and cool bass line always bring the chaos back together.

also i think the song this may have the most in common with is swallowed whole -especially the bridge

Except soooo much better. I honestly didn't think Ed still had it in him to write in such a creative way anymore. And I used to defend getaway.

it’s definitely better. there are elements of getaway in here as well for sure, but with the layers and space those songs are missing (especially getaway)

yeah I agree- and I think I will still agree in a couple of years time.
