I'm surprised to see The Doors mentioned so much here. I can never tell how seriously they're taken in large extent because of how they've been "marketing" themselves since Morrison died.

Fuck The Eagles.
And while we're at it, kind of fuck The Doors too.

Oh man, I can get on board with the Eagles stuff (except Joe Walsh, he's awesome), but the Doors were pretty damn good. LA Woman (album) is a classic. I feel it's easy to knock Morrison (and rightfully so at times), but in that knocking of him, I think many overlook some of the really cool tunes they put out.

I'm curious why Nirvana or Creedence are bands but Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers or Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band aren't outside of not having the main creative forces name in the band name? Kurt and the Nirvanas. John Fogerty and the CCR. The Doors were a band.

I love Robby Krieger, he was the true hidden gem of the Doors, and churned out some of their biggest hits like: Light My Fire, Love Me Two Times, Touch Me, and Love Her Madly. Not to mention, they way he played guitar using scales and finger picking was / is really unique and gave the sound a snakey / slithery feel to it. He really shines on LA Woman.
Ray really tried to milk the whole thing, but the man is dead, and I a'int gonna knock him. RIP.
re: knocking Morrison...the same like Pitchfork types that shat all over Vedder during his best years with PJ are the same types than shit all over Morrison. It's like the Doors became too cool after the movie, and ever since there has been a strong backlash. Like a war between the poet style of Lou Reed vs. Morrison. Personally, I love both the VU and the Doors.

I can see giving them 2 1/2 stars, or even 3. But 3/12?!!?!

The only possible moral we can pull from this story is that America is still waiting for its Phil Lynott.
