Well. You're not gonna get what you're looking for if you're hoping for another Origami Harvest. It's a series of trumpet improvisations. Just trumpet and reverb. Some interesting things happen here, like sometimes the ghostly waves of reverb overlap and create an effect where you can almost hear a phantom piano accompanying the trumpet, or sometimes even strings. Gives the recording a haunting quality. "To: Shabnam" was my favorite. I'm glad I listened but I doubt I'll feel compelled to come back to it

Just wrapping up that new 22 minute single from Animal Collective. A good reminder of why this band is not for me.

New Natural Child album dropping this week. Easily one of my favorite bands these days. I thought they called it quits so this is a gigantic lift for me.

Just listened to the first two singles off the new one - they sound OK. Sonically they seem very thin but I guess they're a three piece so what are they gonna do.

TK, if you like that chooglin' type of sound have you given Endless Boogie a chance?

Love those 2 singles.

Check out the Okey Dokey LP, there’s a heavy dose of pedal steel and organ. They get into some real nice grooves.

And hell yeah Endless Boogie, although I haven’t heard anything except Long Island. What’s next?

I’m starving for rock albums anymore.

For Endless Boogie I actually really like their first 2 LPs (Focus Level and Full House Head) and their EP from 2005 Volume 1 2 is pretty great too.

But I don't really think you can go wrong with the Boogers.

<Edit> It's Vol 2 that is my fave of the 2 x 2005 EP's.

Too right.

Saw them live when Matt Sweeney was in the band, after the show outside the venue the band came up to me and asked for directions to another club, I was starstruck.

Some of these are probably obvious, TK, but I've been away and don't know what you've heard - all are guitar bands that rock to one degree or another, I've given one song rec for each from the last 3-4 years:

Tropical Fuck Storm - You Let My Tyres Down
Gang of Youths - The Angel of 8th Avenue
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard - Boogieman Sam
RVG - I Used To Love You
Leon Bridges - Georgia to Texas
Soaked Oats - Simple Pleasures
Protomartyr - Michigan Hammers
Amyl and the Sniffers - Some Mutts (Can't Be Muzzled)
White Denim - Magazin
Hamilton Leithauser - Isabella
Chat Pile - Tenkiller
Mini Mansions - Works Every Time
Cloakroom - Lost Meaning
Wil Johnson - Necessitarianism
Brightness - Bukhansan
Damaged Bug - I Tried
Cable Ties - Hope
Lord Huron - What Do It Mean
Palace - Someday, Somewhere
The Lazy Eyes - Fuzz Jam
Kikagaku Moyo - Dancing Blue
Parquet Courts - Walking at a Downtown Pace
Courtney Barnett - City Looks Pretty
IDLES - Car Crash
Swans - It's Coming It's Real
Native Sun - Jesus
METZ - Acid
Bass Drum of Death - Just Business
Hungry Ghost - Same Thing
Flat Worms - Circle
Shame - One Rizla
Wild Pink - Sucking on the Birdshot

Hopefully there's something in there for you.

Definitely big on KG&TLW, they fucking rule. I like Courtney and that’s a solid tune. I’ve dabbled with a few other ones on there but have never given them proper listens. I’m making this into a playlist right now. Thanks Zebber.

I surprised Ryley Walker one day while he was standing on a street corner with friends: I pulled my car up alongside him, rolled down my window and blasted one of his songs at him.

His head whipped 'round so fast and he gave me a big grin. Good times.

I like a bit of Ryley now and then. I’ve not delved too much into his catalog. I remember liking his KEXP performance from years ago. Super talented dude.

He’s a fun follow on twitter.

RVG is a Melbourne post punk revival band lead by Romy Vager on vocals (she's a she but every time I hear her sing I have to remind myself of that). I've been a fan since their debut A Quality of Mercy from back in 2017. I see zeb mentions them in his post above, so there's all the cred you need.

They've just released their 3rd long player Brain Worms and it is pretty damn good actually.

Here's the first single from the album "Nothing Really Changes" that for some reason makes me all nostalgic for earlier times.

Thanks for the kind words, Higgs. RVG are good - saw them open for Julia Jacklin ealier this year.

Giving this a listen a little late, but it’s enjoyable. I keep worrying they are going to be like Greta Van Fleet.
