On the otherhand, Stone is awesome in the NFY from Worcester 2. Nice Nirvana quote in there
I didn't even mention Lukin. Holy fuck that song is terrible. They just need to permanently shelf this one, unless the do the slow variation. I love the No Code track, but live, especially now, just may be the worst song Pearl Jam does. It is unlistenable.WtOB? wrote:i agree with every word. if i were jeff, i would have "stormed" off stage too if i had to hear that shit in my ear monitors. no wonder he ripped em out and threw em on the ground.darth_vedder wrote:Fuck, Baltimore really does suck. Ed's voice is a fucking joke at this show. It's gravelly, it's shaky, and it's squeaky. His voice also sounds thin and airy. What happened to that beautiful baritone? It's amazing how much worse he sounds compared to the awesomeness of the 2003 Japan Compilation. That is seriously some of the best PJ I've ever heard, and Baltimore just may be the worst boot I've ever heard. Blah.
Back to Ed's voice, seriously, it just pisses me off at this point. "The" sounds like "Dwa". "Up" sounds like "Wup". Mind Your Manners is a disaster live. Jesus, Ed just can't pull that song off.
Based on the Baltimore boot, I will not be buying any more, and hopefully spenno puts together a kick ass compilation that helps redeem my faith in this band.
It is a very unpleasant number...even the band its just strumming along without trying.darth_vedder wrote:I didn't even mention Lukin. Holy fuck that song is terrible. Yeah, no, Baltimore was a great show, and listening to the bootleg in the car surprised me at how much fun it was. I'd forgotten how good it was. Solid set, solid gig, solid jams. Oh no, Eddie Vedder can't sing anymore like he did in 1994!! Come on, get over it.darth_vedder wrote:I didn't even mention Lukin. Holy fuck that song is terrible. the show wasnt bad, Eddie was just struggling. He went crazy the night before I pretty much expected it.opsopcopolis wrote:On the otherhand, Stone is awesome in the NFY from Worcester 2. Nice Nirvana quote in there
it's not that at all. it's that eddie can't sing full stop, at least at this particular show. and he opts to sing parts out of his range when he doesn't need to. for example, there's that part of DTE that goes "i crawled the earth.. but now i'm.. haa*squeak*." now, if he just sang that normally instead of trying to do it higher like that it would be fine, but for some reason he tries it like that every time and never ever succeeds. it's a fucking squeak every time. it's shit like that that he can totally help that pisses me off the most. Will wrote:Yeah, no, Baltimore was a great show, and listening to the bootleg in the car surprised me at how much fun it was. This is basically just how Eddie Vedder sounds now. It's not a case of good shows or bad shows, that's just his voice. His old voice is more or less gone - he's the "heeee" and "wup" guy now.darth_vedder wrote:Back to Ed's voice, seriously, it just pisses me off at this point. "The" sounds like "Dwa". I actually really love the squeak on that line. Sounds cool to me. I assumed it was intentional like the ones in Wash.WtOB? wrote:it's not that at all. it's that eddie can't sing full stop, at least at this particular show. and he opts to sing parts out of his range when he doesn't need to. for example, there's that part of DTE that goes "i crawled the earth.. but now i'm.. haa*squeak*." now, if he just sang that normally instead of trying to do it higher like that it would be fine, but for some reason he tries it like that every time and never ever succeeds. it's a fucking squeak every time. it's shit like that that he can totally help that pisses me off the most. Will wrote:Yeah, no, Baltimore was a great show, and listening to the bootleg in the car surprised me at how much fun it was. Really? I don't like when he tries to hit notes he can't, but some of these squeaks people are complaining about sound great. The end of Wash from Brooklyn 2 was about as good as I've heard Eddie sound all tour, he sounded amazing, honestly better than the studio version for me personallylowlight79 wrote:the problem with Ed's voice is that he needs like 10-15 shows before it warms up and they just don't do long tours anymore. Which has made his chick squeak sound worse as he gets older. I really hate the squeak on wash at the end, it drives me nuts.
I think that the problem is that a lot of what made the night so great was the crowd, and it's hard to hear them on it. That said some were really great like Present Tense and Wash regardless.lowlight79 wrote:I gotta be honest, I just finished brooklyn 2, and I compare it to looking up a hot hooker on backpage and getting there and realizing that she bait and switched you. Everyone on the pit was saying how good it is, it's ok. Not great.
Don't all crowds pretty much sound the same on recordings?mikejasond wrote:I think that the problem is that a lot of what made the night so great was the crowd, and it's hard to hear them on it.
Yeah, but to follow up a bit of what WtOB was saying, it's the way he chooses to sing. Like he does not need to sing the start of In My Tree like "Wup here...". Why can't he just sing "Up here..."? Or Wishlist, why is it "dwa Christmas tree...", not "the Christmas tree..."? These are things Ed does not have to do but for whatever reason, he is choosing to sing this way. For me, it borderline ruins the songs.Birds in Hell wrote:This is basically just how Eddie Vedder sounds now. It's not a case of good shows or bad shows, that's just his voice. There seems to be a lot of variability in how the crowd sounds on recent boots. If they're mixed just right, you can definitely feel the vibe going on in the room translate onto the recording.Kevin Davis wrote:Don't all crowds pretty much sound the same on recordings?mikejasond wrote:I think that the problem is that a lot of what made the night so great was the crowd, and it's hard to hear them on it.
