I woke up this morning, Sunday, March 9, with the opening song in my head on the day of the season one finale. Good sign, I think, or I need more hobbies.

Can't watch it until tomorrow morning, but I'll be watching episode 7 again first.

And I like Nic's description of the show's landscape and its people:
I think True Detective is portraying a world where the weak (physically or economically) are lost, ground under by perfidious wheels that lie somewhere behind the visible, wheels powered by greed, perversity, and irrational belief systems, and these lost souls dwell on an exhausted frontier, a fractured coastline beleaguered by industrial pollution and detritus, slowly sinking into the Gulf of Mexico. There’s a sense here that the apocalypse already happened.

Based on what Pizzolatto had been saying, the finale was pretty much just what I expected. Well done. I think there should be a tandem "Lead Actors" Emmy. Because both of these guys did a helluva job.

Spoiler: show
I was pretty surprised they both survived. I was positive at least Rust was going to (wanted to) die. The daughter monologue at the end was incredible.
