2000 boots constitute a disproportionate percentage of my present-day Pearl Jam listening.

Re: Let's Talk About the 2000 Tour
I've started buying them again. They make a nice little 'mixtape' when I have a 2-3 hour drive out of town for work. And having not studied them as much as others here it's nice to read peoples comments then listen to a show.

I can put on any 2000 or 2005 show and walk away impressed. Great tour.

Columbia, MD from that tour is one of the tightest shows they ever did. They are a f'n machine here...

inspired by this thread to pull up Philly/Camden Night 1.
I really feel like I take Sometimes for granted as an opener, but it's really great.

Re: Let's Talk About the 2000 Tour
I met my first girlfriend in 2001. I think I owned Ten but she was a huge fan. I remember she had the Milan 00 bootleg and I was totally blown away by how this band sounded, how long they played for. She told me that the band had never played the same setlist, which at the time was staggering.
That was the start of my obsession. At the time in England broadband was not really a thing, so downloading shows was out as at home we still had a 28k modem
. But there was a small, independent record store that stocked about 4 of their bootlegs. I was 17 and remember working all summer and going in one day buying them all. They were Verona, Oslo, Jones Beach I and Tampa. I was hooked. Then I bought Touring Band. Spent the next 10 years following them around the world but have always wished I could've seen them on the 2000 tour.
As a few other posters mentioned, there's a darkness and moodiness in the playing that is so captivating. And also as someone else mentioned, the band played as if every show might be their last (I guess given the tragedy that year it was a real possibility that it might be) and seemed genuinely grateful to the fans for sticking with them. I also feel like the band really got the balance right with 1 or 2 covers per show, and looking at the setlists there really isn't a bad one.
I now have all the original 2000 bootlegs but some personal favourites:
Cardiff
Tampa (great Immortality, Garden, Porch)
Salzburg
Ljubljana
Lisbon
Glasgow (RVM > Brain of J > Insignificance -
)
Pittsburgh
Greensboro (love Of the Girl as an opener)
Toronto
Portland (RVM > Fuckin' Up to close is amazing)
I was also massively into B&Ps at the time. When I went to Uni I started using their LAN to download fan-shot videos of the concerts from a mIRC channel. To this day I've got a crate in the garage full of dvds, Salzburg is a great one. This thread has inspired me to dig through them and see what's in there. If there's interest, I'll share them on here...

I listened to Seattle 2 yesterday. Excellent show. They should bring back Parting Ways into their regular sets and just jam it out for 7 mins. The end of that song live is just a really great Pearl Jam moment.

That was the Sonic Youth influence. They should get together again.liebzz wrote:I listened to Seattle 2 yesterday. Excellent show. They should bring back Parting Ways into their regular sets and just jam it out for 7 mins. The end of that song live is just a really great Pearl Jam moment.

Yep. And the great little touches like the Romanza intro to Better Man enhanced this.IWish wrote:

Just listened to Katowice 2 from the European tour. Great show and I had forgotten how unbelievable that version of Immortality is. Right up there if not surpassing Benaroya Hall.

Re: Let's Talk About the 2000 Tour
I really like the sound of the 00 boots, you can hear the full scope of the guitar tones. Knowing all these shows were going to be officially released, the band may have taken a more professional stance to the performances. If I haven't been playing PJ in a long time and just want to hear each song performed well, this is the tour to play. Being a bit burnt out on PJ, listening a lot more like I was maybe 10 - 12 years ago, these shows may not stand out as a unique experience as the tours after it.

2000 is such a palate cleanser from these sloppy-ass 2018 shows. Listened to Philly, Chicago, Lubbock and Boise this week. PJ 1996-2006 is my favorite band. Lightning Bolt tour PJ is maybe in my top 10.

Re: Let's Talk About the 2000 Tour
08/15/00 – The Pyramid: Memphis, TN
set: Of The Girl, Last Exit, Animal, Grievance, Corduroy, Tremor Christ, Nothing As It Seems, Wishlist, Can’t Help Falling In Love With You (Elvis!), Given To Fly, In My Tree, Even Flow, I Got Shit, Better Man/(Save It For Later), Black, Insignificance, Rearviewmirror
enc 1: Breakerfall, Do The Evolution, Thin Air, Nothingman, Elderly Woman, State of Love And Trust, Go
enc 2: Footsteps, Baba O’Riley
A great show you might pass up because 2000 had so many standouts. Of the Girl was a great opening, early set Grievance, TREMOR CHRIST, punk version of Can't Help Falling in Love, awesome 1st encore, Footsteps with harmonica and a great Baba O!
