This doesn't strike me as a compliment to the album.

I like TKOL a lot, but I don't hold it to the same standard as everybody else does. It's just Radiohead in "chill" mode, and there is nothing wrong with that for a change of pace.

"King of Limbs" is a quietly sophisticated piece of work -- as trag and WCT have established, it does settle into a certain stasis of mood, but that shouldn't imply shallower depths of musicianship or somehow less thoughtful avenues of record-making. It's an unassuming little curio that's happy to be taken or left, but that's willing to reward the listener at whatever level he or she is willing to engage with it -- there are a lot of subtle flourishes and such for curious ears to find, both in the arrangements and in the compositions, things which enrich the character of the work as they emerge one by one from the album's pervasive "chillness," but which can just as easily fly under the radar without altering the overall impact of the music. In a lot of ways, it's the gold standard for what a "minor record" is supposed to be. It's an upper-tier Radiohead album for me -- as is "In Rainbows."

For sure. "In Rainbows," for my dime, is the best record they've made, largely for that reason. I hear it and "TKOL" as companion pieces of sorts.

That's the kind of Radiohead talk I can get behind. In Rainbows is my favorite of their records, and I've always liked TKOL, though I haven't put it on in a while. I should rectify that.

In Rainbows is the all-nighter with your friends; TKOL is the time alone the next day.

I still have never warmed up to IR or TKOL.

for those of you that didnt/haven't got into KOL, check out the in the basement video. that worked for me. I was able to DVR it back when it was playing on cable and playing thru surround sound loud in my basement got me hooked.
if you can't get into IR, then i'm not sure what to tell you.

There was a "Basement" session for In Rainbows, too, though I think the setlist was a bit more eclectic. A great show, though!

Anyone have a good ripped file of this yet?

I'll also chime in on the above discussion. I do agree that In Rainbows is basically the perfect distillation of everything that is Radiohead, but Ok Computer still reigns as their untouchable peak for me.

"In Rainbows" is my favorite Radiohead album. It's almost perfect. I refrain from calling it TOTALLY perfect because I HATE HATE HATE what they did to "Videotape". They also sabotaged "Four Minute Warning" on the bonus disc, which was a huge disappointment.

My favorite album is Ok Computer. Then The Bends. After that, its tied with Kid A and In Rainbows.
