I don't get all the Hathaway hate. Sure that speech about love transcending time and space was some high school poetry level writing, but that isn't her fault. She wasn't great in this, but by no means did she put in a terrible performance.

I dont think the character was for her.
she wasnt bad but still..

I enjoyed it, but I've always enjoyed " the universe is amazing" optimism. Imax was the right way to see it. Anne Hathaway wasn't great (and that speech WAS dumb), but she wasn't awful either. Was David Gyasi high throughout? I really dug that performance. He was sort of absent-mindedly spaced out even when he was sciencing it up.

that monologue was more or less the thematic linchpin of the film, so your hatred of it is not as innocuous as you think

McConaghey said in a recent interview that this ending certainly leaves it "teed up for a sequel".

I will say, the one thing that was great about this movie was all the theory in it. I still find myself thinking about how it all worked/could work.

i think "hatred" is too strong of a word to describe something that elicited an eye-rolling response. the better representations of that theme were shown through actors emoting rather than just coming out and speaking their feelings. I'm pretty sure that you're set up to think negatively of her delivering those lines considering the situation of deciding which planet to go to required logical rationalization over feelings, setting her up to be seen as wrong despite her ending up being correct in the end.
