I loveee Fat Dance!! I remember downloading it as b side back in the day.
I saw the band in 2001, 2002, and twice in 2014. The first show was amazing, while 2002 was ok. Both shows of 2014 were good i guess, I didnt paid attention really, and it didnt helped the fact that they played in the same lollapalooza than Soundgarden, NIN and Pixies.

After reflection on old opinions and a few hours of fresh listening, I have reconfirmed my love for SA, and also come up with an 11-track, 47-minute version of the double album I like to call STADIUM ARCADIUM PRIME.
This was time consuming and unnecessary, but I hope someone here enjoys it.

That said, the album is very long, so as is my wont, I retracked it and have been enjoying my new version much more than the original form:
1. Can't Stop (How did they not open with this song considering that percussive intro?!)
2. By the Way
3. The Zephyr Song
4. This is the Place
5. Universally Speaking
6. Venice Queen (REALLY like US and VQ as a mid-album one > two punch.)
7. Throw Away Your Television
8. Minor Thing
9. Midnight
10. Dosed
11. Cabron
I love By the Way but agree that it’s just a little bloated. I’ve never pared it down myself, so I’m going to check this out. Sad to see Tear left off, but I’ll listen first before judging.
This was straight fire, man. Probably going to be my go-to version of BtW now.
What’s your trimmed SA track list? I might start with that because the thought of a 2-hour album is daunting.

I listened to Red Hot Chili Peppers and Freaky Styley on the way home today. The early stuff is so much different. You know, back when John Frusciante was not in the band which happens to coincide with the only time he liked the band.

That first track list was created back in Jan. of 2014 (if the I’m With You thread is to be believed). That’s after almost 8 years and countless front-to-back listens of SA since it’s release. Another 6 years later (and almost no SA listens), and it would appear my tastes have altered somewhat.

Listened to Uplift Mofo Party Plan, Mother’s Milk, Blood Sugar Sex Magik and One Hot Minute - plus about half of Californication today while working.
Uplift is a fantastic album and better than the first two but really nothing can compare with the magic that Frusciante brings. Your can definitely feel the difference from that album to Mother’s Milk and then One Hot Minute to Californication.

The original demos of the first album stuff with Jack Irons and Hillel Slovak are much more lively and enjoyable than what ended up on the album:

For all of Rick Rubin's sins, he was the first producer to make any of their records sound any good.
Pretty much all of their 80s output is borderline unlistenable to me. Just really weak sounding recordings/mixes.

You guys don't really rate 'Strip My Mind', huh. It's a top 5 SA track for me, maybe top 3.

True. Mother´s Milk remains as another fav of mine. But these days i like the weirdness and sound of Mofo Uplift more. Behind The Sun is so fucking beautiful...i remember as a kid watching the video and loving it.

I still want to listen the rest of the way through (By the Way, Stadium Arcadium and the two Klinghoffer albums), but I am with you here. I used to rate Mother’s Mill among my favorites but Uplift was so good. Granted the two big ones, BSSM and Californication are just unstoppable. But Uplift was really just right.

Uplift is the only studio record made with the original line-up; Kiedas, Flea, Slovak and Irons. I'm sure that has something to do with it.
I don't think any of their other drummers had the right combination of thump and swing except Irons and Smith. Their other 80s records are just too stiff-sounding.
