What iiiis interesting is that I was skimming through the old 10th album thread in the archives and there's a few quotes from stone and Jeff maybe talking about making this album different to backspacer and possibley more experimental BUT if I read correctly they were all from before the break in recording.

And theeenn we get those quotes from stone more recently saying 'it sounds like pearl jam' so....uh.... [/conclusion jumping]
Shit. Yeah, you're right. I don't like that.
The first sessions were back in 2011, weren't they? Around the time Olé was released? I thought Stone's reference to it being kind of "experimental" were nearer to the resumed sessions in 2012.
I hope so. I can't hear much experimentation going on in MYM, but I like it so whatever.
I'm fairly sure MYM is from the initial sessions, I recall them talking about "Mike's Motörhead song" back around 2011.

Ah, that's probably right. To be honest, I'd be really cool with an album which was half and half.

It would be good if it was the former, so that some of the tracks really surprised us.

“We started it two years ago, then we had to pull back. We finished seven songs two years ago and we had to take some time to figure out what we wanted to do. And write some more songs. So about four months ago we started up again with a brand new batch of songs to go along with those.”

This was from July. So they only started up again this year.

I'd be very interested to know what those conversations in between the sessions were like.

We'd better hope that they eventually give away all of the juicy details in an exclusive and exciting dvd release.

Aaaaaand June 2012
It’s much more about the anticipation that you could increase by providing us some inside information.

Ok, I think it will alienate some people a little bit. Just like No Code did. I wouldnt neccesarily say that we are following a similar direction but we are definetly experimenting a lot. We are working on the new album with the attitude that there is nothing more boring then to repeat yourself. It´s very exciting because everything is possible.

Phew

Speculate away!

I have no idea if this matches up with whatever BoB said though.

I'm pretty sure Sleeping By Myself was one of the songs written 'for' Ukulele Songs (though the lyrics would suggest otherwise). It was debuted on the Aus tour in 2011, meaning it's likely to have been written in the post-BS/pre-LB period - so if true, it's no more strange an inclusion that Can't Keep (which was a stroke of genius thanks to a certain son-of-a-kiwi-legend).

Exactly. I'm saying all the quotes about experimenting were from prior to the break and session no.2.

During the break we got this gem of an interview
http://www.alternativenation.net/?p=18233

And I think ' it sounds like pearl jam' came after. I might be wrong though.

Yeah. That doesn't sound good. What if they started off doing something experimental and then... ah man.

If only they would. Instead it will be Eddie rambling about 200 people in a room and Mike talking about the meanings behind his tattoos (spoiler: He thought they looked cool).
