That's a fair question and I'm not 100% to be totally honest. I like Leia going back to into military service, "going back to what she knows." But I think the going back aspect is a little weak. I think Leia would have always been doing that stuff. It's in her blood. It's how she is to the marrow. Either way, I think "General Leia" fits the narrative well and doesn't feel like any kind of retcon to me. Han on the other hand...

Again, I totally understand the choice and the justification for the "going back to what I always knew" but I also think it's the safest and easiest choice. It works just fine but I would have preferred something more interesting and less obvious.

I actually like that Hand and Leia separated. That makes so much sense given what happened with Ben. We see real life parallels to that all the time and it's a powerful plot point. But I think there was something they could have done with Han. Given who he was at the end of Jedi and the distance of those 30 years between, surely there was something more interesting for him in TFA. I'll have to think about what exactly I think that might be.

Ehhh

How was Han and Leias story retconned? Serious question?

And how totally shit would it have been to have Han and Leia still together while their son had gone off the rails and off the rails again once sent to luke?

That makes no sense?

Han and Leia are exactly where they need to be in a true sense in TFA. If you'd read bloodline you'd know they were ok but living apart more and more, her back trying to establish the new republic and him doing his thing elsewhere. And this is after they sent ben away but before they split and before Ben knows Vader is his grandfather.

I can't think of a better way to depict that story on screen and in books than the way they've chosen.

I loved that Han and Leia were separated. I love that Han was living his adventures again and she became a militar leader...Their scene together was the best part of TFA.

I'm gonna guess the puffins were on Skellig when Rian was filming so they're just doing GGI over them and incorporate puppet versions into some scenes. You do see some whizz by in TFA but the vast majority had left for their summer home when JJ was filming there. They're literally everywhere on the island usually all along the many stairs and steep cliff faces. And you can go right up to them they don't have any fear of people. They don't tend to be near the stone beehive huts though.
