About the tracklist, the lack of official words on the subject is weird.

Wasn't it leaked on an Italian site? So was the title of the album, incidentally. I'm not sure why Italy gets to hear about everything first. Also, at this point, I find it weird that you find a lack of official word on anything PJ-related weird.

With the release of the album yes, i find it weird. They annouced the tour, the first single and the release date but not the official tracklist...i dont think they have ever done that before.

I'm not a marketing guru by any means but if they were planning some strategy around releasing the titles in a creative way wouldn't it be more benifitial to announce that that would happen or start on a specific date? Or does this blackout type of attitude help?

I think people are reacting to the fact that, 4 years after Backspacer, they're putting out a new version of a song we've already heard. This gives the impression that they're running low on creativity and are turning to cannibalizing their solo work because of a lack of inspiration.

I pointed out "Betterman" as an example of a rehash that worked, but I think there's a difference in that Vitalogy only came out a year after Vs. There's less built-up expectation.

Agreed...whether fair or not, it just seems strange that after this much time a song that's been officially released on a studio album made the cut over who knows what else. As for the Betterman example, I do think there is a difference. Better Man (and Can't Keep for that matter) were unreleased songs that had not gotten much play, Better Man actually coming from another band's catalog. Sleeping By Myself, on the other hand, had a studio release that Ed toured pretty extensively behind; it was also the record's second single, correct? Sleeping By Myself just feels like it had it's day in the sun in a way those other songs did not. I totally get the argument that the difference doesn't really matter, but I do think there is a difference.

OK, I'm thinking that the latest leaked tracklisting is fake. This is really only based on the 'Where's my sponge?' title. However, if in fact WMS? if it's real, my thoughts/theories on the song:

1) Ed wants to 'put a little cleanin' on it'.

2) It's about a lazy, workshy tosser who would rather let his friends pay for everything than put his hand in his own pocket. (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=sponge)

3) A person who has no desires for anyone of the same or opposite gender. Asexual. Reproduces with themselves. (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=sponge)

4) It's a prison song, however they've confused a sponge with soap, and it's meant to be 'Where's my soap?'.

5) It's a surfing song. Ed shoves a sponge up his ass when he goes surfing to stop sea vermin from entering restricted ass space. The song is about getting dumped off a big wave, and losing said sponge.

6) There really is a cake?

Except that nobody knew who the fuck Bad Radio was in 1994 or that Eddie Vedder even had a band before PJ. "Betterman" wasn't from some Ed solo album released a year before it was an obscure song about 27 people in San Diego might have been aware of.

"Where's my sponge?" I once said that there was no way PJ wrote a song called "Johnny Guitar" so what do I know. I like that tune a lot so I'll wait and see.

Maybe "Lightning Bolt" is PJ really fucking with their fans? Like Live's "V" which to this day I believe had to be a joke.

Also probably old news but Sleeping by myself is confirmed. It's on a 3 track album sampler I'm told.
