I was suggesting they're just making up excuses and need more time for writing.
Using the weather as an excuse? Seriously? It's always dark and grey here. They're well aware of that.

I don't think they need more time for writing. If they're making up excuses it's because HBO wants to air it later because it's a shortened season. That would be my guess if they're making shit up.

It is likely more this than anything else. HBO is going to milk this for all it is worth.

Frankly, its a goddamned miracle this didnt happen sooner with this show. Scaling back a week a year wasn't bad. Not like the Sopranos which felt like it was going a year between "half seasons" and 18 months between the end of a season and the beginning of the next. This has been a pretty consistent "Starts April, Ends Late June" rotation.

You're one of my favourite RMers cos my pal Gean from Brazil, his second name is DeLima
Hope book six is out before the new season. Feel it will give the show an extra dimension, and it will also be good for the book series.
Felt season six was the best thing on tv or cinema in 2016 though, so I'm no longer worried that they will fail to finish the series properly. Wish there was at least 20 episodes left. Biggest worry is that they will rush the story too much.

I'm watching the series over again and came across a interesting parallel with Robb/Jamie and Jon/Ramsey.
Basically Jamie with Jon's lines and Robb with Ramsey's lines.

They will make two short seasons. 8+7 episodes, and that's it. Martin and HBO wanted ten full seasons, but the showrunners decided against it.

There have been many comments about, even from Martin and HBO. Here is where the story broke:
"We realized we'd probably catch the books when we spent several days with George in Santa Fe in 2013, discussing the future of the book series and the television series. George's schedule is very much his own, as it should be for a novelist. But we're locked into a set schedule — a new season every year. In the beginning, we hoped that if the show worked, we'd get seven seasons to tell the tale. Seven kingdoms, seven gods, seven books — seven felt like a lucky number. The actual messiness of storytelling might not be quite that numerologically elegant, but we're looking at somewhere between 70 and 75 hours before the credits roll for the last time."
