Or maybe Kylo has just done more research and learning. With Snoke (not a Sith) out of the way he's discovered that Vader was a Sith and so he's co-opted that just like he's co-opted so much else about his persona/personality. Maybe he names the Troopers "Sith Troopers" and they are his personal body guards. Maybe he got the idea from the Emperor's guards (also red).

It'll be interesting to see how much Jakku plays into this movie. The novels/comics/games/etc have detailed a real connection between The Emperor and Jakku. But does this movie care about that? I'm guessing JJ certainly doesn't.

I'm excited to see how it all comes together and plays out. There are so many options and possibilities! It's an exciting time to be a Star Wars fan.

Ooh. I like that.

Would hope that JJ lands it in a satisfying way. Overall. He’s never gonna land it to the type of nitty gritty you just outlined and we’d all come love. But maybe.
Have one fear here.
First order /state of play politically were not explained at all in TFA.
This is where my Palpatine idea comes in.
I hope it isn’t just dropped on us and it happened off screen. There has to be a backstory or reveal.
Has to be
I agree. Like we all keep saying, if it's well done, I'll buy anything. But on its face I hate the idea of Palpatine's return off screen between films. Like, don't tell me he's back in the opening crawl (yuck). If you're gonna do it, let me SEE it.

Crawl prediction

The First Order is in crisis.
Divided, half of its forces have broken away under the command of ALLEGIANT GENERAL PRYDE, to avenge SUPREME LEADER SNOKES death at the hands of the traitor, KYLO REN
who was ratted out by that weasel GENERAL HUXX

I've said since walking out of TLJ that I REALLY hope Kylo and Hux are at odds. I want them to be full-on, straight-up, hardcore enemies. I also like the idea of Hux going full coward/traitor and informing on The First Order to the Resistance. Though, I admit, that's less likely.

I also like the idea that the Sith Troopers are clones. That's cool because it's a tie-back to the PT, but also a callback to Kylo's line in TFA about using Clones instead of Humans as troopers. That's especially cool if they are Kylo's bodyguards.

I think the clue is huge and in the name allegiant general pryde.
He could sell he Palpatines man leading forces to take out the upstarts of the first order.
There’s a million ways that could go. Kylo all full of himself in power now won’t bend the knee and had Snoke telling him Vader and the emperor while skilled, failed.

I’d love some connection between Snoke and palps to be revealed.
The thrash books have it so palps is looking for this new dark power out there.

The last book in that trilogy is out next week.

I fuckin bet it hints totally that it’s snoke and doesn’t name him.

The only pic we git was HUxx standing behind Pryde in a chair.
I’m leaning on it for my theory.
They’re not just at odds. They’re at war

Man you’d se sooo many squealing happy clone wars /prequels fans if they turn out to be clones:)

I honestly hadn't considered the title "Allegiant General". That's fucking interesting. Good call, dime.

When you stop and think about it, it really COULD mean that there is an allegiance within the First Order. But allegiance to what? To Palps? To Snoke? And if there is an allegiance is there also a treachery or disloyalty or mutiny within TFO, too?

It would make sense that the Allegiant in the title would refer to a branch of TFO that is loyal to The Emperor and the old Empire. I really like that.

Well we know palps had project cinder. If he fell there were contingency plans in place.
Hence loads of the imperial fleet running away and thus the first order was born.
That much is established.

But if you had the first order split after the death of Snoke and internal strife breaks out, OR Palpatine had a second army in wait for his return...both are interesting sexy ways to go I reckon

The allegiant aspect also calls back to the awesome imperial guy in TLJ. Kannady. Five. Bloody minutes ago.

He was a former imperial officer who rankled of the lack of experience and leadership in the first order.

The last thrawn book refered to lightsaber resistant armour.
Maybe these guys have that.
It wouldn’t stop the force though. Unless maybe made of kyber?
If kylo wants to choke you out and throw you across the room worh the force, he will

Lightsaber Resistant Armour seems like a no-duh. But not in this trilogy. If it was going to be created it would have/should have been created way back when there were a butt-ton of Jedi and Sith.

Immediately reminded of my hatred of that dumb fuckin weapon Finn had to fight against in TFA.
I know there’s precedent for weapons like that.
But that was under dooku and grievous.

How would the first order have the tech to build weapons to tackle lightsabers when they don’t even have tech or the knowledge to build a lightsaber? Remember Kylos is broken and poorly made hence the crossguard vents everyone hated

Well, yeah, I love Kylo's saber, too. But I don't think that's conducive to dime's ultimate point, which I think has merit. There should be some real in-world logic to all of this. And so creating a weapon to defend against lightsabers specifically, when as far as anyone knows there are only two in existence (Kylo's which is broken and Luke's which is lost) is kind of stupid and feels like a money-grab/merch thing. Which, I don't hate in and of itself, but once you draw attention to it, you need to defend it.

The Black Series toy line show us that the Sith Troopers have a weapon that looks a lot like the thing dime is talking about from TFA. I have no problem with that because of the escalation from TFA to now. Rey has a saber. Luke might be around still (the bad guys don't know) and so it makes sense. But in TFA it is a little weird.

I didn’t hate them either Wease.
In fact I liked them given the design through line from mauls and especially when we were told it’s a broken cracked crystal he possibly tried to bleed to a sith crystal that went wrong and he worked around it.
That’s in universe sense stuff that makes sense. But you only found out if you explored the extra material.
You can’t have troopers on screen impervious to lightsabers. Even with an explanation it undoes everything that came before. Doesn’t mean they won’t do it.

But to varying degrees the book stuff has tied in either lightly or heavily so you might see it happen.

For example, Wish people would read that legends of Luke Skywalker book. It brings you to where luke is and why he’s like that as we find him in TLJ.

As fans we love this stuff. It would be awesome to see on screen but we all know JJ isn’t the man for the detail on that level. It’ll be spectacle. Explained later.

Totally agree with you dime. But I also understand that realistically, casual fans aren't going to consume that stuff. So if it "really matters" it needs to be in the films/tv shows. Not saying that's right or that I agree with it. But it is what it is, unfortunately.

TFA is standard Star Wars length. Two hours fifteen. But it flies by.
Rumours as they will saying this will be the longest Star Wars yet.
If he can let these scenes settle and have an extra moment, which he could / should have done in TFA, we’ll be safe
