Are you asking about the players or the people as a whole? Because I can only really speak on one of those

I was referencing the team and the fan controversy's of the past while also referencing TD's post to me earlier about how terrible Mexico's fan's chants are, and also referencing Argentina as a Nazi "escape" country. But I was not referencing the people of Argentina. That's why I phrased it as a "American Sports radio call-in show."

Well, to address the Argentine people as a whole, I think there is racism in Argentina much in the same way there is in other places, I don't think they're free from that charge. I think a lot of ugly stuff (including some of those chants) gets excused as "football culture" when they would be better interrogated. But I don't think Argentina is a country of virulent racists and the current hate campaign against them is a lot of misrepresentation backed by a lot of cherry-picked history to fit a narrative. It's especially upsetting because the country has been a civil rights leader in the region for a long time, though right now they're under a reactionary government [like much of Latin America is].

The Nazi haven thing is severely overstated; estimates suggest that considerably more former Nazis and suspected Nazi war criminals settled in or were recruited by the United States than ended up in Argentina (your government imported and employed them). Many German refugees who arrived in Argentina during the Nazi period were fleeing persecution, while only a relatively small portion were suspected Nazi criminals. I understand that it's a big meme and it's almost impossible to fight it.

I don't know about the controversies but I have seen some fans saying some racist shit. It's indefensible but if it helps I will say that most Argentines who have the kind of money to attend these games probably kinda suck (don't quote me on that!)

Yeah these people definitely exist in a not-insignificant number but the main reason they make it to your algorithm is because they are quoted and rightly decried by the more sensible people, so it spreads. To take them as any sort of representation is like taking Nick Fuentes followers or Andrew Tate followers as representative of the US, know what I mean?

Thank you for reaching out and I certainly don't want anyone to think that I'm saying the Argentinian people as a whole are racist or terrible or whatever. There's context to all of this and I was trying to be funny as regarding previous posts made at/to me while also understanding that as a US citizen, I don't really have a leg to stand on.

It was supposed to be honest, good faith, good natured banter about the World Cup. I'm just bad at the internet ( as you know ).

I understand and I may be a little touchy about this but I love this country so much, and that whole thing has been relentless for several weeks. Two-bit Influencers making "here's why you should hate Argentina" content because they know it'll do numbers. The people I know who live here find it confusing and sad
