i love Buffalo '66 but struggle with The Brown Bunny, which I think is underrated, not great, but has its merits. I like unapologetic, visionary artists who create what they want to because they want to, take risks.
Interesting. I’m kinda the opposite: I love TBB and like B66. My wife REALLY loves the latter, though - it’s like an all-time top five movie for her.
I’d love to see the unreleased movies he’s made since but I also kinda hope he never waivers in his position that he’ll never release them. Extremely admirable power move
It might be in my top 10. She probably super relates to the theme of dysfunctional childhood family trauma hindering her ability to love or be loved (very Elliott Smith), and the power of redemption through new love and acceptance like me, no? powerful and timeless. Also the movie is hilarious.
Don't you find the Brown Bunny to be a bit boring though? I could see like, having it on in the background for mood or whatever while doing something else, love the soundtrack, but until the last scene/revelation I struggle.
I would love to see his other movies. I'm sure they will be released one day. Maybe posthumously, in 20, 30 years or so.

Ha I think you hit the nail on the head
I don’t find Bunny to be boring at all, no. I think it’s beautiful to look at and exploring a lot, which makes it very engaging.

Do you think it's weird that Gallo made Sevigny blow him for real?

I struggled with that a little (I also struggle watching actors kiss), but I think it's overblown. Pun intended. But anyway it's not like he "forced" her; she knew what she was signing on for.

I’m pretty sure that’s apocryphal, supposedly it was a prosthetic dick

although it seems like she would've come out and said that by now, considering she seems to have been quite inconvenienced by the backlash

I’m not sure how much backlash there actually was. I also think there’s an element of arty prankishness behind both of them not denying it was real; you can never really be sure what to believe when it comes to Gallo.
In any case, I don’t care if it’s real or not. It’s a great scene in a great movie and it was made by two willing participants.

yeah maybe
this seems real,
and her agency supposedly let her go after the movie, but you're right that it could be an act...

Because of this

And also because I recently watched Trash Humpers and rewatched Gummo and adored them both so I'm thinking about him

When I watched Trash Humpers, Korine came out and introduced the movie and said "if you're the kind of person who walks out during movies please just walk out right now." Nobody did, but then during the screening a bunch of people did.
