Ewan McGregor has been cast as the lead character in the forthcoming cinematic sequel to The Shining.

The Trainspotting actor will play Danny Torrance – son of The Shining‘s Jack – in the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Doctor Sleep (published in 2013), which was written as the follow-up to The Shining.

I didnt even know he wrote a sequel to it. Oops. My girlfriend is a huge King fan and she missed that as well.

Hopefully Flanagan can do for this book what Kubrick did for The Shining.

If so, I'm all in.

But the source material has me beyond skeptical. Fingers crossed.

I sure did. When it first came out. So, it's been a while.
So you were not a fan?

Ive only read a synopsis of it now and it seems rather strange but I never judge a King novel until i read it.

It was one of the least interesting of King's recent books. It was unnecessary and silly and forgettable. But The Shining (for me) isn't a great book either. And Kubrick made that thing OUTSTANDING. So maybe this will be another rare film that far exceeds the source material. We'll see.

Man, I can't wait. This was one of my son's favorite films when he was little and it's been great seeing the characters grow along with the kids watching it. Kind of like Harry Potter, in a way.

Though seeing a bearded Hiccup and he sounds like Jay Baruchel?
