A lebron game winner tonight. Ew. Although I wonder if ESPN and TNT will over saturate on dork Curry and the Ws to the point i'll root for Lebron to get the ring come June. Yesterday nba tvs facebook page had a happy bithday post for Barbosa and Bogut. I mean, their moms didnt even wish them a happy birthday but nba tv has to?

Damn! I was hoping Kobe would play at least one more season. Watching him shoot 25% night after night has been a real pleasure.

Who needs great players like Kobe when we have the Warriors anyway?

I watched Phily vs Houston over the weekend. What a terrible waste of time that was.

thats about all i would change. kareem gets the longevity but to me shaq was every bit as hard to stop as kareem if not more

Kareem was significantly better than Shaq. Better defender, better scorer, way better passer, stayed at an elite level longer. The only thing that really keeps Kareem down stat-wise is his rebounding, but that was largely because of the style of game the Lakers played.

i dont think you understand the word significantly

RPG 11.2 - 10.9
Assists 3.6-2.5
steals .9 - .6
blocks 2.6 - 2.3

all in kareems favor but i wouldnt say significant by any stretch. granted blocks and steals werent a stat until 1974 (3 years for kareem)

~10,000 points, ~4,500 rebounds, ~2,500 blocks are pretty "significant" if you ask me. Also, Kareem was on the all-defense team 11 times. Shaq was on it just 3 times, which was really solely due to his shot-blocking, because he is probably one of the worst pick and roll defenders to ever play the game. I believe Phil called him as much in his autobiography.

It's not just Kareem's "longevity", it's how long he was truly great. He was finals MVP at 37 and was sixth in the league in scoring at age 38 with over 23 points a game. Also, despite being just over .720 at the FT line, he was clutch at the line when it counted. A far cry from the liability that Shaq was in crunch time.

Completely agree.

look at the per though. kareem played more games (360 from regular season and 21 in the playoffs) so of course he is going to have a total of more stats, thats why you go by per game

I try to consider both longevity and peak greatness when determining these types of lists.
