Of course. Who saw Luke or Obi Wan doing Jedi-y stuff at all during the first three movies? Either people who barely survived disasters, gangsters, people who had been through trauma. Tarkin and the boys were even taunting Vader at the beginning of Star Wars, so even educated people who had traveled around the universe were skeptical.
You're right, but you get so used to seeing the story through the eyes of people in the know that you forget. I love that angle.

And it's amazing that none of these trailers actually mention the plot. They do a ridiculously amazing job of (re)capturing the feel of Star Wars but I can still go into the film largely not knowing what's going to happen

I think it also LOOKS great. Also, the little dialogue given has been real swell as well.

I re-watched some of the prequel trilogy trailers and woa i should have known what was going to happen. At least with the phantom menace trailer.

Lookup Abrams Ted talk about the 'mystery box' as the story telling device.

You should try the app. No problems with it at all.

We've got the character outlines: Finn is a deserter, Rey is a "nobody," Ren is a Vader enthusiast. Poe seems to be just a soldier. I'm glad they're working with basic archetypes instead of trying to hamfist in some super complex conspiracy (remember all that stupid shit with General Grevious and Doku? I still don't think I understand). I'm also pleased that the roles of Phasma, Snoke, Hux, Kanata, and others are pretty vague, too, so that they can be fleshed out in the film. Can you imagine if they still released novelizations before the film's premiere?

I wasn't even considering opening night tickets until I saw that. Now I'm going to try and wrangle up some local friends tomorrow.

This was an interesting thought:
We hear another character that sounds an awful lot like Lupita Nyong’o during this montage, saying, “The Force, it’s calling to you. Just let it in.” Could it be that Lupita’s motion-captured character is our new Yoda, providing guidance to the new generation of Jedi?

Honestly it just looks like really generic modern sci-fi. I don't see anything special or exciting in that trailer.

A Stormtrooper who turns from the Dark Side, a desert scavenger with an unexpected destiny, and plenty of Han Solo: At long last, the first full-length Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer has arrived. (Watch it above!) The trailer, which premiered tonight on Disney-owned ESPN during Monday Night Football, gave fans the most in-depth look yet at J.J. Abrams’s film, the seventh in the Star Wars franchise. In addition to some breathtaking action scenes, the new trailer offers us a glimpse at the villainous plan of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) to follow in Darth Vader’s footsteps; Rey (Daisy Ridley) and the revelation that she holds the power of the Force; and the transformation of Finn (John Boyega) from First Order soldier to rebel.
That is all spot on and fantastic stuff. Especially the boyega character
