First heard that one the night I glued my ears to my radio boombox to listen to the Atlanta broadcast. It was one of those “what song is that!? It effin’ rocks!” Listed as “?” on my cassette tape J card until Vitalogy came out. Love that song and love it every time I see it at a show.Ms Harmless wrote:Matters wrote:“Whipping” is one of the great Pearl Jam songs.
Got it at my first show a week and a half before that Atlanta show.liebzz wrote:First heard that one the night I glued my ears to my radio boombox to listen to the Atlanta broadcast. They were my favorite band at the time but unfortunately I wasn’t paying enough attention to their schedule to see them on the Vs tour. Remember 1994, when you didn’t know a band was coming to your city until the datebook section of your local newspaper featured an ad a few weeks before the show?wease wrote:Got it at my first show a week and a half before that Atlanta show.liebzz wrote:First heard that one the night I glued my ears to my radio boombox to listen to the Atlanta broadcast. that whipping and that satan's bed (and probably that sonic reducer) remain the definitive live versions of those songs.Matters wrote:They were my favorite band at the time but unfortunately I wasn’t paying enough attention to their schedule to see them on the Vs tour. My first PJ live experience was bridge school ‘94. Jack’s first appearance w/ the band iirc.
That Atlanta version is the best Whipping I’ve heard. The ferocity of the guitars at the beginning takes the song to another level.
Yeah that's cool. I'd never seen that before. It would make a great t-shirt.mray10 wrote:Where is the Vitalogy an artwork on the main page from?
