I'm not feeling well tonight, so I'm watching an easy going Jimmy Stewart western - Bend of the River

9 1/2 Weeks.

What a time capsule. Gorgeous photography and framing. Adrian Lyne is such a talent. Kim Basinger, my god.

Yeah, she did a few things here and there but her last movie is that fifty shades of gray thing. I was mindblown when i saw that she is 71!!

I didn’t know she was in that

so I've been going back to older vampire films after Nosferatu 2024 (apart from Nosferatu '22 and '79, which I enjoy to a degree), trying to find more folkloric treatments of vampires, because I was never really into the campy Hollywood "Universal Monsters" approach but I'm an avid horror fan and my experience so far has been that there are great movies to suit my taste in every subgenre

today's watch was Carl Theodor Dreyer's "Vampyr" (1934, compiled from earlier and remastered material, some of it lost) and it's VERY good, a poetic, subtle waking nightmare and pretty likely a big inspiration on the tone of Eggers' version, imo; not a pair of fangs in sight but extremely eery nonetheless, a couple of shots in the last act I had to look away from

Funny Games (2007 remake), because I'm learning about Corbet in preparation for The Brutalist, and might as well check out some of his acting work. Whacky movie. Frustrating, riveting. 6.7/10.

It's smart, but not that smart. Frustrating. I'm already not much of a fan of torture movies, so whatever lesson they're trying to teach me I already knew.

My mind was blown a little when I learned the director of The Brutalist was that guy from Funny Games (and also Martha Marcy May Marlene)

David Lynch is probably my biggest movie blind spot - so tonight I'll be throwing on Blue Velvet.

I do very much love the idea of someone saying to somebody they are in the mood to want to watch a really cute Xtreme, f'd up horror/thriller and this being the pick. In that kind of way, this is more like a 9/10

Meh. The flashbacks were kinda bad. Moore and Swinton are great but i wasnt moved with them. I liked the interrogation scene and it seemed for a moment the movie was heading into a very different territory.

Also, it was very weird that Swinton also played her daughter.

Interstellar

I had watched it before even in the cinema, but didn’t really land for me. It did this time.
What a beautiful movie.

I love that shit. That giant wave planet sequence is peak sci-fi.

Yeah, interstellar is a classic.

Speaking of classics, I watched The Wizard of Oz this afternoon. Really enjoyed it - it looked fantastic and was very entertaining.
