This was really cool. This and the Stereogum review this morning have probably done more to get me excited for this record than anything else, despite how I've felt about the first two songs thus far.

these last few reviews have leaned away a bit from the album being super heavy.

Animal, Habit, and Insignificance are not what I would have associated with Dark Matter

maybe he is pointing at that fact that all of them sound ominous.

Yeah me neither ..maybe Animal in its “caveman” guitar sound but I don’t agree with those

I hear songs as a guitar player, so its really difficult for me to understand these comparisons.

Comparing a vibe more than a arc of style.

Now they've given me a hard-on with all that WFS talk.

I'm gonna destroy something when i hear it and it turns out a dud.

Seems like with this many people loving it, it may actually be really great. Pretty strong consensus.

Obvious from his descriptions of the two we've heard that this isn't a "sounds like", more like general vicinity guide points.
I'm fine with those until I actually hear the songs for myself.

God damn...Scared, Stevie, and Setting Sun have me getting hot..Really curious for Wreckage, as well.

Hey, I'm scared of fear because I'm only a typical PJ fan after all

If these song comparisons are any indication then as expected Running will be my least favorite track on the album. And as far as "least favorite tracks" on a Pearl Jam album goes, that's a pretty decent one.

I'm really curious about all of them but yeah the first three you mention are probably gonna be the big ones for me as well.

There was a lot of Big Wave/Ole talk around here when Running first hit, especially from folks who didn't care for it. In my mind, that bodes well for the rest of these descriptions, even if the Dark Matter touch points don't sound as evident.

I can understand the animal and insignificance allusions.

Def hear both. Remember, it’s not that the song sounds like those tracks; there may be minute elements that REMIND one of the places they take him/her. I think the verses in DM could be a mash up of the animal /insig verses frankly.
