The mistake you're making is assuming that Biden's position in the primaries on March 5th directly corresponds to his position in the primaries in April, May, and June--holding steady from before coronavirus to after. That's a pretty huge assumption. It very well might be true--in past years that's been true--but you're literally guessing, given how unprecedented this event is in modern electoral history. Continuing to hold these elections when it's unsafe to vote and penalizing states that delay their primary should cast significant doubt over their legitimacy as representative! Not that difficult of an argument to grasp.

Feel free to point it out! All I've argued is that insisting on the legitimacy of these elections given significant voter hardship should be applied equally. The apt parallel here would be Bolivia but I'm sure it's difficult for you to hold multiple proper nouns in your head at one time.

I feel like the lessons learned are that Bernie has a base of support, but it's smaller than his 2016 numbers suggest, and Hillary Clinton was also way less popular than many people in the Dem party imagined.

I don't understand what would change in the next few months. If Bernie couldn't significantly raise turnout in the younger, more Latino states like CA & TX, there is no reason to believe that changes due to the virus (or anything else). It's also clear that many suburbanites who like moderate Republicans and/or moderate Dems (as maybe their second choice) would rather vote for Biden than Trump or Bernie. 2020, until the virus, actually DID see high turnout - but it was for Biden. Whether or not it's actually FOR Biden or just anti-Trump (or, "thank god it's not Hillary), I don't know. But it's kind of irrelevant anyway. I don't personally care if Bernie stays in or drops out. But the race is over.

1. Leaving aside that Bernie did drive turnout in CA, "no reason" to believe that a global pandemic might either boost support for the public healthcare candidate or drive support towards establishment figures? Whatever voting trends you see are a direct result of the virus--highly unlikely people are voting now or in June for the same reasons they voted in February. We shouldn't downplay the extent to which this crisis will reconfigure the political arena--which is a primary reason for delaying the primaries without delegate penalties. This is being read as a pro-Bernie position, but it could equally be a pro-Biden one, as there's a chance that virus panic makes voters so hungry for Biden-style security that Bernie doesn't even make the 1200 delegate threshold for minority stake in the party platform.

2. Is that clear? Trump is polling competitively against Biden in a number of key states, and I've not seen any breakdown that says that suburban voters in general would break for Biden, though yes, Dem voters in higher wealth brackets are going to Biden in droves.
